Saturday ReView: Clover Deviled Eggs and DIY Barbie St. Patrick's Day Selfie

How about making some Clover Deviled Eggs to add to your St. Patrick's Day fun this year! They only require a little green food coloring and a star or shell icing tip. Use your favorite recipe for the filling, this is really all about the presentation:@)

Even though most of our St. Patrick's Day celebrations have been cancelled this year, Barbie still wanted to pop in with a quick holiday selfie... While we may not be able to gather in groups for big parties, let's be thankful for the special folks around us and enjoy a smile whenever we can!
Dress pattern, braided hair band, felt tie and mustache props from pipe cleaners.

These Pipe Cleaner Mustache Photo Props are a fun little craft for St. Patrick's Day (and Mardi Gras... and Halloween...). Cute for use with Barbie, Ken, and the kid dolls, they seriously only take a minute to put together. Any pipe cleaner will work, I used bump chenille and a tinsel pipe cleaner for these pictures.

All you need is a pipe cleaner, something for a 'stick' to hold it up to the doll's nose and some glue. My stick is an extra long toothpick (the kind they use to hold a sandwich together).

This pic is a little dark, but here's what the tinsel pipe cleaner looks like... Rather dapper😎

And we made one for Santa:@)

Not much of a tutorial here folks, I think you get the idea from the pictures.

Happy St. Patrick's Day planning and have a great weekend:@)

Wednesday ReView-St. Patrick's Day, Jello Candied Popcorn & Orange Braided Headband for Barbie

St. Patrick's Day will be here before we know it folks, how about whipping up some tasty, crunchy, Bit O' Blarney Lime Jello Candied Popcorn for an unexpected treat. And of course Barbie wants in on the fun... This braided headband comes together in minutes using a recycled bottle ring and yarn, and is something most girls could make for themselves. All that's required for the braided hairband is a sturdy ring from a bottle with a screw-on cap, some standard worsted weight yarn and a little hot glue.

The directions are pretty straight forward, you can kinda just see from the picture below:
  • I cut 12 pieces of yarn 30" long.
  • Find the center (15"), start making a braid with three groups of 4 strands of yarn. Make it as long as you'd like it, then tie all of the strands into a knot to secure the braid.
  • Create a braid down the other side the same way.
  • Cut some short pieces of yarn and hot glue them to the top of the ring (the bottom of the ring is cut open, creating a headband). Make sure to add a little glue to the front of the headband so the strands point a bit downward.
  • Hot glue the braid to the headband.
  • Put headband on doll, trim the bangs and loose ends of braid to desired length.

The doll's hair has been pulled into a pony tail above, if your girl gave one of her dolls a hair cut...
This headband could act as an easy hair piece.
While I couldn't cut all of the hair off of one of my real Barbie dolls...

I did buzz cut a Dollar Store doll for this pic😉

Don't have orange yarn? How about green, or a rainbow of colors would be fun too.
I used a hair clip from Walmart for this headband, the post is HERE.

Picture tutorial for this strapless dress from 6" square of fabric HERE.

Here in Philly we're looking forward to corned beef and cabbage, and St. Patrick's Day is the day we traditionally plant cooler weather crops like peas... Although looking at the long term night time temperatures, we should be able to do that about a week earlier this year:@)

ReView: St. Patrick's Day Crafts for the Kids

St. Patrick's Day is Thursday so I thought I'd share some craft ideas for the kids:@) They could be a project to keep them busy for a while, or would be cute as gifts. These little Plastic Canvas Hershey Kiss Holders have been around forever, I remember making them back in the 80's. Here I turned one into a Leprechaun. You could even add yarn as a necklace so it can be worn to the parade! The idea is, squeeze his cheeks and there's a candy kiss inside.
Kiss Me-I'm Irish...

Shamrock Crafts:

And I ♥love repurposing k-cups! Set the kids up with markers, stickers, pipe cleaners, yarn, glitter, buttons, etc, so they can decorate St. Pat's Hats for Barbie and their action figure dolls. Easy and cute😉

I thought it would be cute to create a simple shawl for Barbie, or Curvy Barbie, to wear to the St. Patrick's Day parade... The key is to use ribbon that's at least 2 1/2" wide. This covers the shoulders nicely and adds a little drape. I secured the gather closed with some beads.

Of course this shawl can be made for any time of year or occasion. Some of the Spring ribbon I saw at Dollar Tree... St. Pat's (there was a solid dark green too):

and Easter:

✂What I did:
  1. Hold wire on one side of ribbon and push it to create a gather.
  2. Once you see how full you'd like the shawl (try it on doll), I'm guessing 10" is more than enough, cut the ribbon. I used pinking shears, I do think either sewing or gluing a hem on each open side would be neater.
  3. To secure the gather: I pushed the wire through a bead, ran the wire through the hole a couple times, and then cut the wire.
  4. For the other side, I bent the excess wire into a couple circles and made them lay flat. Then hot glued the shamrock accent beads over that.
  5. I'm using the wire to shape and hold the shawl on her shoulders. You may want to hot glue or sew a thinner ribbon around the top so it can be tied on for more rigorous doll play.
  6. Wrap around Barbie's shoulders, shape shawl and enjoy the parade!
Or how about a simple Over Skirt for Leggings. Barbie doesn't want to get pinched after all:@) The idea is, this is not a finished garment, it's intended to be a quick wink and nod to add a holiday look. St. Pat's is perfect since the parties and parades can be good silly fun.
✂What I did:
  1. Cut a piece of 2.5" wired ribbon twice as wide as the doll's waist. I used pinking shears to help with fraying.
  2. Pull each end of the wire to tighten the waist around the doll. Simply twist the wire closed to hold skirt on doll.
  3. Trim wire and shape skirt.
  4. I left the open side on the back, it can be front or side.
Make something just for fun,
don't forget to wear something green to the parade, and~
Have a Happy Day🍀

Saturday ReView: St. Patrick's Day Cookies, Candy, Popcorn and more...

I thought I'd pop in with a few last minute Treat Ideas for St. Patrick's Day, they all make a nice snack or fun little gift to share. I hope everyone has a festive week, and don't forget to wear your green! We'll be having our corned beef and cabbage this Sunday, a meal we all look forward to every year:@)

Cute, tasty, and they come together in minutes.

Cream cheese and coconut candy rolled in cinnamon

Add a fun gift tag: "Popping in to wish you a Happy St. Patrick's Day".

And of course... Spritz Cookies

And don't forget Barbie likes St. Patrick's Day fun too!
How to make doll size shamrocks from pipe cleaners:

Simply wrap a pipe cleaner around a pencil (or pen, or knitting needle) three times.
Scrunch them together and twist the straight strands together creating the stem.
Slide off of the pencil.

Turn the loops facing forward, creating circles.

Wa-la, shamrocks😎

🍀Have a great weekend and Happy St. Patrick's Day Planning:@)

Recycled K-Cup St. Patrick's Day Hat for Barbie

I'm always trying to think up k-cup crafts and this fun little "green" Recycled K-Cup St. Patrick's Day Hat for Barbie can be as fancy or simple as you'd like. I took the simple road:) Why not pull out a bunch of green, gold and orange buttons, stickers, trim, Sharpies, glitter, etc and let the kids create a one of a kind holiday hat for their doll(s). This is a good project for boys too, the hats can be used on action figure dolls as well as Barbie and Ken. The hats can be silly and fun...

Or just a little more traditional.

Either way they are cute and festive, and a great way to repurpose k-cups.

And Barbie says: On St. Patrick's Day everyone wants to be pinch proof😉

The cup can be a little large for Barbie,
you might want to stuff a few cotton balls into it so it sits better on her head.

Seeing Green... Barbie's St. Patrick's Day

As we're gearing up for St. Patrick's Day fun:
Ut oh... What's going on here?

Is Barbie sneaking up on Ken?

Looks like someone forgot to wear green
for St. Patrick's Day Weekend:@)

You know the rules...

I'd say the pinch caught him off guard...

And while Ken is a good sport,
he's off to find his Eagles jersey:@)

🍀Don't forget to wear your green!
Enjoy the festivities,
and Have a Happy Day:@)

Saturday Snippets St. Pat's Day- Green Barbie Braids, Irish Flag Pizzelles and Planting Peas

St. Patrick's Day is next Saturday and our local parade is today. And since nobody wants to get pinched... This is a super simple/quick project that will yield at least two, and depending upon your creativity, up to four St. Patrick's Day Hair Pieces for Barbie. I picked up the hair clips below at Walmart as soon as I saw them and love the green braids:@)

The 97¢ hair clips for this project. I cut the metal comb of the braided set in half. Haven't done anything with the light green... yet.

Removed the comb and wrapped pipe cleaners around the ends of the braids so they wouldn't unravel.
Then trimmed the hair length to match the doll and hot glued it to a bottle ring forming a hair band.
I really like this fun look:@)
Although I did end up taking the silly shamrock off of the top of her head...

For the other one: Glue the hair together forming a ring to go around her head and leave a long side braid-kinda hippie-ish?
Oh, and that strapless dress that's made from a 6" square of fabric... Tutorial HERE:@)

I made these Irish Flag Pizzelles HERE years ago and thought it might be fun to re-post them.
Colorful and tasty, and disposable icing bags makes whipping up a batch a quick project.

St. Patrick's Day is also when we plant peas here in Philly.
I'll tuck some snow peas into a planter so we can have a dinner of sweet and sour chicken or pork in June.
It's tradition:@)

Dig out your green and have a happy day:@)

DIY Bead and Safety Pin Basket for Barbie-for St. Patrick's Day or Easter

These retro Bead and Safety Pin Baskets are an easy craft that older girls can make for themselves or they'd be a cute gift for any Barbie lover. I kept mine super simple, but they can be as elaborate as you'd like. You're only limited by the size of your pins and beads in your stash... This little basket in green and gold is perfect for St. Patrick's Day, and I made a cute Easter one too:@)

A better view:

I've added the ornament label, larger baskets would really be cute hanging on an Easter tree,
maybe with a piece of candy or little bunny inside.
I found a really great and very detailed picture tutorial for the basket HERE.
My notes:
  1. The most important thing is the size of the beads. They need to cover the open pointy side of the safety pin ~and~ you need to be able to close the safety pin. Shorter safety pins use up to 8mm beads, longer ones can use wider beads.
  2. I used 10, 1" long safety pins and think that makes a well proportioned Barbie size basket, especially for playing with the kid dolls.
  3. Longer safety pins would make a deeper basket. If you want a wider basket, use 12 or 14 safety pins.
  4. The tutorial uses craft wire, I used my never ending supply of pipe cleaners.
  5. The tutorial makes the handle out of beads too, I love my sparkly/blingy tinsel pipe cleaner handle.
  6. Embellish the baskets any way you'd like, sequins, ribbon, add a little Easter grass, etc.
And you can click HERE if you'd like to make this easy dress from a 6" square of fabric.
Now Barbie's all set for the St. Patty's Day parade!
And totally pinch proof...

Make something just for fun and have a happy day:@)
