Turkey Toes -Thanksgiving Kids Party Favor with Silly Poem

Grab some candy corn while you still can folks! Especially now that it's marked down:@) These Turkey Toes are a cute little party favor for the kiddy table and come together in no time. I've seen the idea around the 'net, my contribution is the silly poem. The candy could be wrapped in clear bags, mesh, tulle, anything really. And they could be dressed up with pretty ribbon to match your setting if desired.
Be sure to have a cheesy bad joke up your sleeve too:
Why did the turkey cross the road? To prove he wasn't chicken!

Update: I'd add one word so the poem flows better:
Happy Thanksgiving-
Feathers, beak and gobbly nose,
but my favorite part is...
The turkey toes!

October Daylily

I snapped this picture on Sunday, which was a breezy, cool and brisk day. Even though we then had a hard frost that night, I was still greeted by this beautiful color after work yesterday-big smiles!
Fall is here, it is true,
Skies are gray, rarely blue.
Though there are but a few,
Enjoy the blooms just for you.

Have a great week:@)

Thrifted Santa Planter and Vintage Christmas Table Runner

I found this cute Santa planter last January at Salvation Army for 80¢ and never suspected he'd be the centerpiece for my kitchen table this year! Of course that decision was easy with this fun colorful vintage table runner:@) I filled his sack with a standard little 12" tree from Michaels, initially I thought I might add more ornaments but decided to keep it simple. Let's take a closer look with a short poem...

Christmas comes but once a year,

so dance around the tree you hear,

visit friends and spread some cheer,

 even those not so near,

and sing it loud for all to hear-

no fires tonight... it's Santa's biggest fear:@)

Oh yea, just being silly-
Have a Happy Day Everyone!!!

Happy Halloween!

It's Halloween Everyone! To celebrate I thought I'd play with a poem, it's been a while:@)
Halloween Night
Ghouls and goblins roam the streets,
There will be tricks if there are no treats.
They've partied all day into the night,
They'll be cranky tomorrow-what a fright.
Witches and warlocks oh what fun,
They'll all be gone before the sun.
Pumpkins carved and glowing bright,
A scary yet welcome sight.
Halloween comes but once a year,
Trick or treat is what you'll hear.
So open your door and fill a bag,
The one with most candy gets to brag.

Couldn't resist this pic... Too stinkin' cute!!!
Have a great Halloween:@)

Ice Cream Anyone???

No I'm not pigging out,
just trying to cool my snout.
The sun is high and brightly seen,
a perfect day for Vanilla Bean.
I gave my order and paid,
to enjoy a scoop in the shade!

I saw this pic on seriouseats.com and loved it!

If you too have the craving...
Here are a couple easy homemade ice cream recipes I've made: Pina Colada and Mocha Latte
and if you're feeling adventurous... Daylily Ice Cream

Have a happy day:@)

Watering the garden

Mother nature took care of that for us yesterday,
after a few days of windy temps in the 90's it was:

Raining And Incredibly Needed!
We have sunshine and temps in the 50's this morning.
Hope it's a beautiful day in your neck of the woods too!

Thanks to Bloggy Buddy Mary for this cute pic:@)

Lily of the Valley

April showers bring May flowers,
goes the nursery rhyme.
Coming home from work today,
the fragrance was sublime.
Gotta fill a vase and enjoy,
missing out would be a crime.
I see some weeding in my future,
really must take the time:@)

Stop to smell the flowers and have a happy day!

Spring Gardening Thoughts

After cutting and weeding a couple beds then mowing the lawn doesn't it seem that:
The person that labeled gardening a "light activity"...
Never did any!

And Earl wanted to share a quick acrostic poem today:
Spring Plantings Require Ibuprofen Nature Girl!
Um, yea, thanks Earl.

Be sure to stop to smell the flowers and have a happy day:@)

Happy St. Patrick's Day Weekend!

I saw a pig with a beer,
and had to stop and say,
good sir where are you going,
on this fine March day?
With a smile and tilted head,
he said he's on his way,
home from the pubs and partying,
he needs to hit the hay!
Here's wishing you a fun St. Patrick's Day:@)

Winter Tomatos

I'm joining Mizz Jenny today for Saturday Centus, we can use up to 100 words and any style of writing. I had to laugh when I saw the picture prompt, I did literally just get back from the supermarket, so this one was easy!

Winter Tomatoes
I bought a tomato at the store,
kinda pale, and pink and dry...
I let my mind go back in time,
and long for the ones in July.

No ripe tomatoes in Philly today,
as snow falls from the sky.
I nod and smile instead of fret,
For we all know how time does fly!

Have a happy day:@)

Are You Ready for Halloween?

Saw this fun pic and thought I'd join Saturday Centus today with a little Halloween poem. We can use 100 words around this picture. Any writing style, no additional prompt.

Are You Ready?
The time is drawing close and near,
For the scariest night of the year.
Gather your candy and your gear,
Don't hold back because of fear.
Witches and vampires will appear,
for Halloween night will soon be here.

and just for fun...
Now off to the store-disappear,
I need some Visine-be a dear.

Have a happy day:@)

Late Bloomers

The glory days of summer may be through,
But the flowers want one more day to show you,
That aging with dignity is something we all can do,
Bloom where you are planted the whole year through.

Pics taken 10/6/12: lavender, self seeded zinnia, rosemary.
Have a happy day:@)

Welcome Fall!

Thought I'd officially welcome Fall with an acrostic poem. Hope you have a great weekend!

Fabulously cool evenings and crisp mornings.
Apples, pumpkins and spicy aromas from the oven.
Leaves spinning in a kaleidoscope of color to the ground.
Love every moment of this most majestic season!

Have a happy day:@)

Are You Ready For Some Football?

Somehow I missed checking out Saturday Centus this morning and here it's about my favorite season of the year, football season! The prompt is are you ready for some football?, we have up to 100 words, additional pictures are ok and can use any type of writing we want to. I likey:@)
The link for some great weathervanes can be found HERE.

Are You Ready For Some Football?
Tis the season I wait for all year,
Love it when the rowdy fans cheer!
Hit 'em hard and make them fear,
Did that big guy just shed a tear?
Pass me a burger and a cold beer,
And keep that bowl of chips near.
It makes the work week disappear,
So I spend my Sundays sitting here.
Oh yes, I am ready:@)

Dog Days of Summer

It's been a while since I've joined Mizz Jenny's Saturday Centus, this week the challenge was to write a poem using up to 100 words around this pic and the prompt is Dog Days of Summer. I like it:@)
Dog Days of Summer
The family reunion is real nice,
But still one has to wonder...
Who set the schedule to coincide,
With the dog days of summer?
Between the heat and fetching,
I am running hither and yonder.
This old dog is tuckered out,
And the kids are calling me... bummer.

Have a happy (and cool:@) day!

Summer

Hey everyone! I haven't posted an acrostic poem in a while, how about one for Summer...
S-Seriously lovin' the fresh fruits and veggies!
U-Umbrella pick in my ice cold drink? Why yes, thank you.
M-Meet me in Cape May, if only for the day.
M-Men grilling out, do encourage that often:@)
E-Each sunset is worth remembering.
R-Run through the grass barefoot at least once!
Don't forget the sunscreen and have a happy day:@)

Happy Easter!

Hey everyone! I'm hoping Mizz Jenny doesn't ban me from the Saturday Centus Club this week... We were supposed to write a 25 word Easter Card around a cute little dog pic, I took the liberty of using a pic that's shall we say a little more suited to my style:@)

Baby chicks are cute,
and bunny ears are big.
But nothing says Easter
quite like the pig!
(inside)
Hopping by to wish you a beautiful Easter!

And from my home to yours-Happy Easter everyone!
eat much, stay safe and play nice:@)

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patty's Day everyone! I hope you all have a great day filled with good food, friends and maybe a green beer or two! I'm happy to be joining Saturday Centus, Mizz Jenny says we can use up to 98 words and the prompt is "it was only ninety eight cents".

Whose Round Is It Any Way?
O'Mally jigged all the way to the pub,
had to rub elbows with the gents.
Slap backs, laugh and raise a glass,
for it was only ninety eight cents!
But would the Irishman buy a round,
the guys were filled with suspense...
Enjoy St. Pat's but bring some change,
never leave drink to happenstance!

And Earl says...
Kiss me I'm Irish!
Have a happy day:@)

St. Patrick's Day Blog Crawl!

Hey everyone! It's time for bloggy buddy Kathleen's 4th Annual St. Patrick's Day Blog Crawl!
How about an acrostic poem for the occasion...
Porky O'Snorts-A-Lot will narrate:
S-Start the parade,
T-Today's the day,

P-Put on your green,
A-And party away!
T-Toast your friends,
R-Raise your glass,
I-Include everyone,
C-Cute guy and lass.
K-Kiss me I'm Irish,
S-Smile and dance,

D-Don your kilt,
A-And kick high and prance!
Y-You might want to wear undies under the kilt with all that high kicking... Just sayin'...
Beth at Beyond the Garden Gate shared a link to make our own Keep Calm Poster here-cool!

Saturday Centus!

Hey everyone! I think Mizz Jenny is tired from the move, she's making things too easy for us with Saturday Centus:@). While there is no prompt this week, there is a theme... Good things come in 5's, 5 sentences of 5 words each. Here's an ode to my Saturday:

Happy Saturday
I'm up with the sun,
forget sleep-I need none,
so many errands to run,
gotta get it all done,
to relax and have fun:@)

Have a great weekend!
