Even on the hottest of summer days, every once in a while it's just nice to smell something simmering away cooking for a few hours. This Slow Cooker Spaghetti Sauce with Sausage took about 10 minutes of prep, and basically cooked itself. Honestly, I didn't even mix it before cooking, just added everything to the vessel in the order given... And to make clean up extra easy, I used a Crock Pot liner! This sauce is nice and thick, has a robust flavor, and you have plenty of wiggle room with the sugar. I might even cut back to 1 Tbsp or so next time, you know your crowd:@) I modified the original recipe to suit what I had on hand, and Pillsbury actually cooked the pasta in the sauce at the end. I wanted to portion and freeze mine for lunches, so I'll just cook up some spaghetti as needed.
Best tip: Every slow cooker temperature runs differently.
It's best to try new recipes when you're around to monitor how things are cooking...
Mine was done in 6 hours.
Slow Cooker Spaghetti Sauce with Sausage
1 lb Italian sausage, casing removed, broken into 1" pieces
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp oregano
2 Tblsp sugar-I'd probably cut back more next time
1/2 tsp salt
2 heaping Tblsp dried onion
1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
14.5 oz diced tomatoes, with juice
(2) 8 oz tomato sauce
6 oz tomato paste
- Add everything to 3-4 quart slow cooker vessel.
- Add towel under lid, turn to low, cook for 6-8 hours. I was home and did give mine a stir at 4 hours.
- Stir and serve over spaghetti.
Eat well and have a happy day:@)

I love sausage in my sauce, Lynn. This is super easy without even having to brown the sausage. I’m always in the mood for Italian!
ReplyDeleteI love to make spaghetti sauce in the slow cooker, but who knew you don't have to precook the sausage! I want to try adding the pasta and letting it cook in the sauce too, how easy!
