French Beret for Barbie -DIY Free Pattern

I saw a great post on Hello Sewing showing folks how to make berets for women and decided it would be fun to make one for Barbie using felt from my craft stash. The hat is basically made from two circles, one has the center cut out to fit over the head. This project literally comes together in minutes, and would be adorable in any color! The key to having a very stylish beret is to shape the hat and tilt it a bit on the head.

What I did:
  1. Place pattern pieces on fold of fabric, cut one top piece and one under piece.
  2. Place top and bottom right sides together. Sew 1/4" seam allowance all the way around the circle.
  3. Carefully cut small notches around the outside of the seam (pic below). Push hat inside out.
  4. If you'd like to add the stem (little loop on top), cut a thin, maybe 1/8" wide, piece of felt about 2-3" long. Cut very small hole in the center of the hat and poke the loop through, trim excess, and I secured it with Liquid Stitch on the inside.
  5. Carefully shape hat, try to push at the seams only, try to not stretch the bottom rim too much. We want it to sit on the doll's head fairly securely.

I would like to thank Hello Sewing for the inspiration to adapt the pattern for Barbie,
