Very Cherry Holiday Spritz Cookies -Christmas Flowers

I splurged and picked up red and green candied cherries this year, so I decided to make some Very Cherry Spritz Cookies. The cherries turn regular cookies into festive little gems:@) I think they look like pretty Christmas flowers... Nothing ground breaking here folks, pick your favorite spritz recipe (I started with a shortbread one), add almond extract, and top each cookie with half of a candied cherry before baking. Almost too pretty to eat... Almost.
For some reason the green cherries were huge and the red ones kinda tiny?
But they both taste good:@)

Very Cherry Spritz Cookies
1 C butter, softened
1/2 tsp almond extract
1/4 tsp vanilla
1/2 C powdered sugar
1/4 C cornstarch
pinch salt
1 1/2 C A/P flour
  1. Cream butter, almond extract, vanilla and powdered sugar.
  2. Mix in cornstarch, salt and flour until just combined.
  3. Fill press, press cookies onto cool, ungreased baking sheets. Decorate with half of a candied cherry. Optional: Chill the cookies on the baking sheets for 10-15 minutes before baking. This isn't necessary but does make a little more defined cookie. I did chill mine.
  4. Bake at 350 degrees for 9-11 minutes or until lightly golden brown.
  5. Cool on wire rack.
Enjoy a cookie and have a happy day:@)
