Time has come...

Hi everyone! Time has come to say good-bye to my cutting garden. It's been awfully hot and dry, we've only had two days of rain North of Philly all summer so it's been a very difficult year for gardening.
Here's a little tribute, kind of then and now...
But in true Gardener's fashion I will say "there's always next year":@)

Nothing Gold Can Stay
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
- Robert Frost

I'm joining Summer Sundays and Mosaic Monday.

  1. Ditto here, our impatiens have been gone for weeks, it has been so horribly heat-nasty.

Have a wonderful PS weekend ~

  2. I still have my impatiens but the lawn is pretty sad looking! Your bouquets are so pretty!

  3. Do you have any that have gone to seed that you can save for next year! Sometimes cutting back some of them you can get a second flush of flowers in the fall....
This truly has been a trying summer for some areas.

  5. Our garden is giving up too. We have had too much rain and the result is over watering. Dry or wet where is the in between? smile! At least it has not been terribly hot here. I am thankful for that.

I just arrived back home from TN. My daughter is recovering from shoulder rotator cuff surgery. We had a great time together in spite of her pain. She was here for ten days and then had to return home for a Dr's appt. All is going well.

    Have a wonderful weekend Lynn.
    Hugs, Jeanne

  6. A lot of our flowers especially the hanging ones have dried up. Sad to let them go, isn't it?...Christine

  7. I cleaned up some geraniums this evening. They are looking pretty sad. Even my zinnias are about gone. Time to clean out the garden and prepare for something new when the temps get more reasonable.~ Sarah

  8. We've had unusual rain here in Utah, it has been more like my summers in Wisconsin. Nevertheless, the heat has done a number on the flowers here too. I did cut my dead roses off and saw a few new ones this week, they will go crazy again when it cools down. I just love flowers too.

  9. Remember how envious I was of your early crop? Well we are in high harvest mode around here right now! My garden is just doing so well and our 2nd cherry tree is almost ready and covered with cherries. I've got lots of zucchini for you Lynn! I'm planning to bottle pickles Monday. So thanks for the reminder that yes, all good things come to an end! I sure enjoyed all of your wonderful gardening posts.

  13. It's been dry and hot here too, and we are lucky if we can keep our grass green... Oh well, such is life I say... You're flowers were very beautiful!

  14. I live in a desert climate, and we almost never get any rain June through September. So, my flowers aren't looking very good either. So I can definitely relate to what you are saying.

Your flowers are beautiful and colorful, though. And I love the little pig planter. TOO cute.

    Blessings,

  19. Yes, it's been looking rather parched here as well... All my plants are in pots this year, because the deer just decimate everything else... Hope you get some rain soon! :)

  20. Our garden is also suffering greatly. What a hot summer. None the less you've made a love collage out of what was left! Have a great week, and always enjoy your comments on my blog.

  24. Zinnias are my favorites! I'm ready for summer to come to a close!

  25. Yes, the summer annuals are fading in the heat and dry. Wonderful before and after mosaic. Love the quote, so true.

  26. Though summer blooms are fading, new ones are taking their place here and the nurseries are full of mums waiting to replace what is gone. Guess that's a clue to replant!

  27. I'm not a gardener, but every year I put out a few ferns and hope for the best. Amazingly, they look fantastic this year- go figure. I kill most everything with my brown thumb, so these full and lush ferns are quite an accomplishment for me. The heat has definitely put a strain on gardens and lawns this year. Hope cooler weather brings some gorgeous color to your fall garden.

  28. Really lovely mosaic! My garden is giving up too. We have had such strange and extreme weather this year with much cold, much rain and much heat.....

  29. My garden is getting ready to give it up. I still have some flowers but not the look I had hoped for. I cut everything way back and fed - so maybe they will come back a little.

Great mosaic. Have a wonderful week.

  30. Oh, Lynn, oh it has been a very, very dry year for you all, hasn't it? Two days of rain all summer? That's it? That's awful.

It's so sad to see them go so quickly. I love fall, but I'll miss all the summer flowers.

I very much liked the poem you included from Robert Frost. How true.

Hope you have a lovely day,
    Susan

  32. We started out with 5 weeks of rain. Now we are in the 90's. This was a tough year for gardening . Oh yes and we have a elk herd that drops by for lunch. But I shall never wave the white flag until it snows. LOL
