Ouch!

I'll be taking it easy for a couple days, had a little kitchen accident...
Speaking of thumbs, I won't be snapping mine for a while... I cut the tip of mine off with the mandolin, not one of my better moments. So please take this as a public service announcement, if you use a mandolin, please use the safety guard! Personally, I'll stick to my trusty chef's knife going forward... Funny but, I've never been cut by it.

So here are a couple silly LOL Cats for your viewing pleasure and I'm hoping to be back in the kitchen soon!

Be careful in the kitchen and have a happy day everyone:@)

  2. My husband had the same accident on the mandolin--after I WARNED him more than once. Ouch is right! I hope you are healing well and when you use it again, USE THE GUARD!!

    Best,
    Bonnie

  3. I learned the hard way about the safety guard! Finger heals, mandolin stays in the cabinet.

  4. Wow, I'm so sorry to hear this Lynn. I'm deathly afraid of the mandolin and always leave it to my husband. I know it must hurt. I've cut myself a number of times. Take care and don't worry about us. We'll be here when you get back.

  8. Oh, poor Lynnie! I'm so sorry. Those things can happen so easily! Get well and I loved your silly kitties! Now I know you made Barbie clothes and wanted you to know that I've made a boat load for my little grand daughter and will start showing them next Monday and each Monday until I'm through. I got the pants pattern from you and loved it! Hope you'll heal fast.
    Be a sweetie,

  11. Oh Lynn, I'm SO sorry to read this!! Ouch! Like Sam, I'm also afraid of the mandolin (we don't even have one). I love the way they can slice food so beautifully thin, but not the way they slice digits off. Years ago I went to a Pampered Chef party, and the woman doing the demonstration told us that she chopped the end of her finger off, so I decided then and there I wouldn't be getting a mandolin. I sure hope you feel better soon, and I love your funny cat pictures! :-D

    Big Hugs To You,

  12. Ouch is right!!! You poor thing!! Hope you heal quickly. I do not have one of those but my sister does and while cooking at her house, she insisted I use it, its so much faster she said.........I sliced my thumb on the first joint of the bend and it took months for that spot to heal not to mention how it hurt!!! A knife is plenty good enough for me!!!

  16. Oh Lynn...I know how much that hurts!!! I hope it heals quickly for you. Maybe you needed a "forced vacation"...go put your feet up & read a good book.
I nicked my finger on my mandolin & I know of at least 2 other bloggers who have gotten cut on them. Wicked instrument...and I WAS using the guard, just not carefully enough.

    Gentle healing {{{hugs}}}

  17. Oh No!!! So far I've been lucky with a mandolin but I do always use the safety guard device. However, I did cut myself TWICE preparing for our gourmet group at the end of Julne after I sharpened both my chef and filet knives. One cut I didn't even have the knife in my hand but was reaching to touch something on the cutting board and knicked my knuckle. Knucklehead!

  20. Oh no Lynn!... I have fear of the mandolin even with the guard. Hope you're on the mend and you'll back to snapping soon :)

  21. Lynn!!! Oh no!!! Ouch!!! I'm terrified of mandolins and won't let one into my house! I hope you mend quickly and aren't in too much pain, although that is indeed a sensitive spot. Maybe Earl can help out in the kitchen, although I'm guessing the bacon recipes won't be used. Keep us posted on your recovery! Linda

  22. OUCH is right. So sorry about it. I don't even know what a kitchen mandolin is...I tell you....I live a sheltered life.
    Get all well soon.

  23. OMG Lynn, that is terrible!!! I am so sorry!!! I don't have a mandolin, mainly because I am a super klutz and really should be around anything dangerous~knives are challenging enough. In my next life I hope to have a kitchen assistant to do all the mundane tasks for me :) Get well soon!!

  26. We always kick ourselves at that exact nanosecond that the blade or whatever is cutting into our skin.
A good, sharp kitchen knife is much safer than any dull instrument because it goes where you want it.
As for the mandolin...always use the guard. Ouch.

  27. Hi Lynn, So sorry to hear of your accident. Perhaps a Kevlar slicing glove would be in order. Take care.
