Crochet Shamrock Ornament, Pin or Embellishment

Here's a cute crochet clover leaf/shamrock that whips up in no time! This great video tutorial HERE teaches a four leaf clover, I only wanted one four leaf clover on my feather tree so I made a couple three leaf clovers too... I'll leave a little luck for someone else:@)
I live north of Philly and in my family St. Patrick's Day is when we plant peas and onions. Shortly after they're planted we expect what we call "the onion snow"... I think it's kind of good luck actually! That's why I added the button snowflake to my clover ornaments and always have beaded snowflakes on my St. Pat's feather tree. The shamrocks are adorable plain too.

I used Sugar'N Cream Dark Pine Yarn because say it with me now... that's what I had on-hand. I'd say this is one project where crocheting tight is ok, the only stitch you're going back into is the first one! As a point of reference the smaller clover is 1.5" (not counting stem) using an F hook and the bigger one is 1.75" using a G hook.

Clover Leaf Pattern-from Shopetsy
Chain 4, 2 triple crochet into first loop, chain 3, back into first loop, single crochet to anchor.
Chain 3, 2 triple crochet into first loop, chain 3, back into first loop, single crochet to anchor.
Repeat for third and (if using) fourth petal.
Chain a stem if desired.
I just fed my beginning tail up through the stitches of the middle petal, made a knot at the top and split the threads for hanging.
For a pin: Sew it to a jewelry pin backing or simply sew a safety pin to the back.

  1. These are so cute! When I was teaching, occasionally a talented mom would make me a pretty little crocheted seasonal pin, and I cherish those now. Isn't it nice to be thinking about spring planting!

  2. Love the golden snowflakes in the center! My mom's birthday was St Patrick's Day and she always got a kick if there were some snow flakes to help her celebrate. And of course, she loved sharing her birthday with this Irish day!

  5. How cute are these? I have no wool, only thread, but not the right size hooks for thread, so off to the store I go. Have you found a pattern for a cute pig yet?? xo

  7. You must live near me - we always plant peas on/about March 17th. Except for the year my daughter was born on St. Patrick's day :) No onion snow that year so we did get them planted a bit late.

  19. Lynn, these are just great!!! I love everything about them! I've loved shamrocks for years and years; I used to keep a shamrock plant in our house in Greensboro but haven't had much luck with them here. I'm going to try again this spring. I think it's neat that you added one four-leaf clover, and I LOVE the addition of the snowflakes. I'm so impressed with how creative you are. :) Now you're all ready for St. Paddy's Day this year.

Thank you for sharing, Lynn, and have a great day!!

    Hugs,
