I walked outside to check on the garden and found a heavy, beautiful green tomato sitting on the ground-huh??? So I brought it in and decided to try some Frank's Red Hot Sauce Fried Green Tomatoes:@) I think pretty much everyone would tell you, the main flavor in fried tomatoes is the crust... The hot sauce adds a little tang, and of course I suggest serving them with some blue cheese dressing for dipping, and the bottle of Frank's on the table. And yes, I did shake the Frank's on top of the dressing before eating.
The beauty I found on the ground:
Frank's Red Hot Sauce Fried Green Tomatoes
Approximately for a big 3-4" green tomato:
2 Tblsp A/P flour
2 Tblsp cornmeal
1/8 tsp garlic powder
1/8 tsp onion powder
1/8 tsp salt-I used Lawry's seasoned salt
few hearty grinds black pepper
vegetable oil for frying
1 Tblsp milk or half and half
1 Tblsp Frank's Hot Sauce
Blue cheese dressing and more hot sauce for serving
- Mix flour, cornmeal, garlic, onion, salt and pepper in shallow bowl.
- Mix half and half and hot sauce is smaller shallow bowl.
- In skillet, bring enough oil to medium heat, hot enough for frying.
- Cut tomato into 1/2-ish slices.
- Dip in milk/hot sauce mixture, dredge in flour mixture.
- Carefully add to skillet, don't crowd the slices.
- Let cook until deep golden brown.
- Flip to other side, cook until deep golden brown.
- Remove from oil with tongs, let oil drip off, add slices to plate.
- Serve with blue cheese dressing and extra Frank's Hot Sauce.
~Let's enjoy what the garden gifts us and have a happy day:@)
Lucky for you to find that luscious green tomato and to dry it up. That sounds so tasty, and I wish I had some right now.
