Pies that say something!

Hey everyone! Since man cannot live by meatballs alone (no matter what they think), I thought I'd make an apple pie for the game. I've used cookie cutters to embellish the top crust before here and specialty cutters here, but wanted to try something new... Love the idea of cutting letters out of the pie crust!
This could be fun with the holidays coming up, and my boys would choose pie over cake for birthdays too.
I rolled the crust out between two pieces of wax paper, removed the top paper and just free handed the letters with a paring knife. Remove the excess dough in the letters.
Place the wax paper back over it, flip the crust and remove the paper from the back side.
Very carefully... position the crust on the pie, crimp and bake.

The Eagles just happened to stomp the Cowboys the Sunday I made this... he, he.
I might have to make a pie every week for the rest of the season!

  8. Your pie looks so good. Please don't laugh-I have been seeing homemade apple pies all over blogland and have wanted one. I can say images do give you ideas. Anyway, I haven't have time or energy to make one so I finally bought a Mrs. Smith pie. It was not as good as your looks.

One of these days I am going to make a scratch pie. I did make two pots of different soups in a week though and that is a lot of cooking for me! You are always cooking and your family is indeed blessed.

  18. That is a terrific idea!

I would share that with my mom, the greatest pie maker on the planet, but since she reads here she has probably already seen it.

I can just see it now. Her next pie will be emblazoned with the words, "JUST ONE PIECE, DEBBIE."
