Barbie Throw Pillow Crafts Round Up -14 Free Patterns

Little decorative pillows are a breeze to make and help turn a house into a home. Even a Barbie Dollhouse:@) I've made quite a few for the dolls and thought I'd gather a bunch of simple projects in one place (14 as of this post), and we'll expand upon them as time goes on. Since it's fall, let's start with this 3D Yo-Yo Pumpkin Pillow... 

My fabric yo-yo pumpkin picture tutorial can be found here, it remains one of my most viewed posts to this day. 

I used a 3 1/2" circle of fabric for the Barbie size and added a cotton ball to the center. Then shaped the creases in the fabric to try to loosely represent the ribs in the pumpkin:@)  Felt and a dab of glue helps create the stem.

Little red trucks are still a popular design theme, and now Barbie is right on-trend too... And to add to the fun (and save storage space), you could make each side of the pillow a different print. Maybe Christmas here and Harvest Season above. Both cute prints were fat quarters from Walmart through the years.

✂Small Square Pillow:

1. Cut two pieces big enough to show truck detail, but small enough for 1:6 scale.
2. If you aim for an approximate 2 1/2" square, you'll end up with about a 2" pillow, that's a good Barbie size😊
3. Right sides together, sew 1/4" around the sides leaving an opening to add batting/stuffing/cotton balls.
4. Turn right side out, be sure to poke corners out, fill pillow, sew hole closed. 
5. Sew or glue decorative trim to edges if desired-I desired pom-poms:@)

✂Ribbon Pillow with Black Haired Barbie or Selvage Edge Pillow:

I started with 2 1/2" wide white satin ribbon that had gold glitter and garland wired edges. I cut my ribbon long enough to fold in half and fold the raw edges up about 1/4". Then I hand sewed up each side. I cut the Barbie outline out of fabric and glued her on using Elmer's Craft Bond Spray Adhesive. Stuffed it with some batting and sewed the bottom edge. Glitzy and fun, what diva wouldn't love this:@)

Barbie Dollar Tree Sofa Cover -Free Pattern, No-Sew & Ken's Fan Cave

If there's a Barbie in your world I'm sure you're familiar with the 1:6 scale furniture at Dollar Tree. It's affordable and fun, and... Brightly colored:@) I spray painted mine black a long time ago. I thought we'd add a little somethin-somethin' to Ken's Philadelphia Eagles Fan Cave... This Sofa Cover is a one piece, no-sew project that can be made out of pajama material, felt, or maybe recycled old sweats. Stiffer felt will require a little bending or shaping to help it lay as needed, but a few glue dots would help (on non-painted furniture). 

Ken's Fan Cave: This room is always changing and being re-arranged for pics and seasons, but I wanted to show how it looked for the last Super Bowl:@) I love the football throw pillows, they are a cute touch. That fabric is still available at Walmart. Aquarium plants make easy dollhouse greenery, and the kiddy table bean bag chairs, or pillow seats, are party favor hacky sacks.

The Sofa Cover: I used pajama material, and of course the fabric could be any color or design. It simply drapes over the sofa back and arms. My dolls are pretty much divas and only pose for pictures:@) For kid's doll play, you'll want to secure the fabric with some glue dots or use spray glue for a more permanent cover. ~Love the spray glue idea, spray the fabric, not the couch:@) And push that back crease in before glue sets (where the back meets the seat).

To Paint Furniture: Wipe plastic down with rubbing alcohol and allow to dry well before spray painting.

I purposely kept the pattern size to an 8 x 11 page. If you have extra fabric you could cut the back and arms longer if desired. Extending them by about an inch would help with the drape.

Dollar Store Halloween Crafts for Barbie DIY -6 Projects

I'll be adding some Barbie round-up posts to PIM sharing several related project DIY's in one spot. And I wanted to suggest these Dollar Store Halloween Crafts for Barbie early, while we can still find craft supplies at the stores. They all come together in no time, and most $1 purchases come in quantities so they're fun for party or sleepover projects. 

I've skinnied up the instructions too, they are all seriously this easy folks:@)

Witch hats

Remove hat from stick.

Cut circle from bottom of hat, glue elastic band onto hat.

Jack-O-Lantern Kelly Outfit from Balloon

Draw face on 12" balloon (or buy balloons that already have faces-even better).

Cut off neck of balloon, cut arm holes, cut slit in bottom.

Skeleton Serving Utensils

Snip the arms off 6" skeletons at shoulder-done:@)

Skeleton Mask and Gloves

Pull head off, cut off top loop. 

Cut into the neck hole, remove 3/4 of the back of head so it slips over doll's head.

Cut the side seams holding top and bottom of hands. 

Glue on elastic (they slide over top of doll's hands).

Day of the Dead/Dia de Muertos option:

Color mask with Sharpies, glue on colorful embellishments.

Skeleton Bench

Glue decorated k-cups to underside of skeleton hand.

How to Make a Fitted Tablecloth for Barbie (or any doll)

While I am truly pleased with my Barbie picnic table for pictures, I'm less enthusiastic that Mattel chose to make it... pink. Oh how I wish it was a nice wood-tone brown. Flipping through the LTD Commodities sale ad one day I saw some fitted seasonal tablecloths and thought that would be an easy fix:@) Also like that they could be for any season or occasion by using different fabrics. 

This is a quick project that works for any scale, in case your girl is into 18" dolls.

It would be easy to make some bench covers using the same technique (note to self:@)

What I did:

1. Lay the table upside down on your fabric and cut about 2" out from the edges of the table.
2. Use a piece of stretchy elastic/string/thin cording. Mine came wrapped around Christmas candy and was just about as long as the circumference of the table.
3. Starting at the center of one side, fold fabric over the elastic a generous 1/4" and start hand sewing all the way around the fabric. Keep pushing the elastic up inside of the hem you are creating and don't lose both ends of the elastic.
4. When you go all the way around, pull both ends of the elastic to scrunch the tablecloth together, creating the underside.
5. Test it on the table. Once it fits securely and can easily be put on and removed, tie a knot in the elastic.
6. Trim excess elastic, tuck loose ends under the hem and finish sewing the hem closed.
7. Cover table, cut the watermelon, and grill up some burgers and hotdogs😎

Saturday ReView: Leftover Ham, Pineapple and Noodle Casserole & DIY Slipcovers for $1 Barbie Chairs

If you have some leftover ham in the freezer this Pineapple, Ham and Noodle Casserole is a very nice way to use it up! Lot's of big flavor with minimum ingredients, I like that in a recipe:@) Serve veggies on the side or you can cut back a bit on the meat and stir some right into the casserole.

I'm sure we've all noticed that toys and other items have become a little scarce in 2020... But the 1:6 scale doll house furniture at Dollar Tree is actually made here in the USA, so it's one item that has been replenished regularly. Barbie says that's a good thing:@) I picked up an extra set of the kitchen chairs (you get two for $1), because I thought it might be fun to add a slipcover so I could use them as livingroom furniture. Or with a fancier fabric, maybe diningroom or bedroom chairs. It turned out to be an easier project than anticipated, so I wanted to share the pattern and tutorial.

I used denim from an old pair of jeans for a casual every day look.

What I did:

Cut a rectangle, 4" wide by 16" long.

Add 1/4" hem to each short 4" side (I frayed the denim instead).

Lay the fabric over the chair, wrong side out. Let the back side of the chair touch the floor, drape fabric over the top of the chair, push against the bend/crease in seat, and flatten it onto the seat. Place a pin on each side where the back of the chair meets the seat (see pic below).

Sew 1/4" hem up each side of the chair back of the slipcover, back stitch at start and finish.

Turn right side out and push the two corners out.

Sew 1/4" hem (or use Liquid Stitch) down the four remaining unfinished sides.

Note: At this point you have a simple chair covering. Option, glue or sew ribbon to the open lower sides to tie a decorative bow on each side. 

I also made one in a Christmas fabric.

This one has the bottom hems, I simply frayed the denim on the bottom.

Another idea, wrap some ribbon around the lower back...

This Philadelphia Eagles ribbon is 5/8" wide.
