Orange and Green Dyed Popcorn for Halloween Gifts

I've suggested Dyed Popcorn for Gifts for a couple other holidays... It's time we add Halloween to the list. The fun colors can be presented any way you'd like, and honestly, the packaging can really take this idea over the top. Whether poured into plastic gift bags from Dollar Tree, packed into jack-o-lantern candy containers, or added to my Spider Jar, I'm sure kids will be tickled when they pop the corn and see the green and orange colors! Oh and, if you happen to have some black food dye (or can find natural black or purple popcorn *HomeGoods, Marshalls, etc*)... That would be spooky fun too:@)

Be sure to give yourself a little time to make this folks,
the longer you smoosh the popcorn around in the bag and let it sit in the dye, the better the color coverage.

Notes:
  • As a point of reference, for each 1/4 C of popcorn plan on about 20 drops of food coloring.
  • For orange, only add about 3 drops of red and the rest yellow. Smoosh around and check color, you might need one more drop of red for it to look orange.
  • If you'd like to fill a regular sized Mason jelly jar, you'll need about 3/4 cups of popcorn total.
  • I also tried this with food coloring gel and do not recommend that. It stayed kinda sticky and just sat in the bottom of the air popper.

Orange and Green Dyed Popcorn
Popcorn
Food coloring drops-as many drops as required to achieve desired color
  1. Put popcorn in sandwich baggie.
  2. Add food coloring and smoosh around until evenly distributed. Leave popcorn in baggie for a while (an hour or two) to absorb all of the food coloring.
  3. Spread out on cookie sheets to dry completely.
  4. Package as desired.

  4. Now isn't that a fun idea for giving as gifts, Lynn? Who wouldn't love popping that colored popcorn? I'm glad that you tried the gel coloring for us ahead of time to see that it didn't work.
    Happy first week of October!

    1. Hello, I've used red, green and orange so far. I don't see why it wouldn't work using food coloring drops. The good thing is you can try it with just a few kernels and see how you like it. Have fun:@)
