Barbie Cheerleader Pom-Poms from Garland

My answer to the question 'what is your favorite season?' has always been... Football Season! College football starts next weekend and the NFL is right behind it. So Barbie is getting into the team spirit and waving cheerleader pom-poms to join in on the fun. These pom-poms are made from bunched up garland and you use a pipe cleaner to create the handle, or to wrap securely around the doll's hands.
I just winged the outfit above, you can find a sheet of free Barbie patterns here.

Pom-pom directions:
Cut an approximate 6" long piece of tinsel garland.

Cut a pipe cleaner in half.
Starting at one end, scrunch up the garland and wrap the pipe cleaner around the center of the garland.
Twist tightly to hold pom together.

Twist ends of pipe cleaner together to create a handle and trim to desired length.
I suggest leaving the pipe cleaner longer so it can be wrapped around Barbie's hands for doll play.

Shake and poof out the tinsel a bit to make the pom-poms look full ~done๐Ÿ˜Ž

Not sure what color to make the pom-poms?
All uniforms have white, and silver isn't a bad choice either.
Here's a quick glance at NFL team colors:

Barbie says SCORE!!!

  1. You are so talented, Lynn! If I tried this, the doll would be covered decently, but certainly not attractively!

  2. Darling. Those would go like wildfire here in this Husker crazed state! All you need is a big red N.

  3. Cute!! I loved to play with Barbies so much growing up so I have loved all these outfits. This one is particularly cute. I hope I have granddaughters who are Barbie girls some day.

  6. Lynn, I am LOVING all your Barbie outfit posts!! These outfits may be the best so far! Did you have a Barbie growing up? I did not-- I had Tammy but I really wanted Barbie. I think I compensated by having Santa drop off one every year for my daughter, although she had little interest. Now the big question--are you planning to make these cheerleader outfits for NY Giants fans? hehehe Linda
