Went Junkin!

Anyone remember this little beauty? Anyone still have one? Anyone get rid of theirs and then probably bought the same one back years later at a thrift store? Anyone??? Maybe it's just me then:@)
This is the Duncan Hines Tiara Desserts pan which was a fun novelty item back in the 70's or 80's? Not sure when they were made but they are now "vintage" on Ebay-ugh. DH used to sell boxed mixes to specifically use with this pan but don't any more. The pan bakes an indent in the center of the cake you can fill with pie filling/pudding/Cool Whip, etc. Luckily we have the internet and I found the original recipe that came with the pan, sounds like a future post:@).

Kinda funny story, I saw the pan at the first thrift store I stopped at, it was $1.99. I decided I didn't want to pay that much so I left it behind. Found the same pan, the same day, at the next thrift store for 68¢, that one came home with me!

Also picked up this little 4" amber cutie at the Salvation Army for 89¢. I'm guessing it's a vase and think it will be adorable with mums in the fall. If you know it's something else please let me know!
Hope you had a great Saturday too:@)

  2. I have the same pan! I think it was from the 80's I just recently came across a recipe with a simple cake (uses 1/2 a cake mix) then filled with cream and topped with fruit and whipped cream. Easy and yummy!

  3. I'd love a pan like this! I bet ebay is selling them for 10X what you paid. I love your little planter...yes, mums would be perfect for the color!

  5. Looks like a successful junkin' trip. Can't say that I've ever had one of those pans (or seen one for that matter) but I think some flowers would be pretty in your owl! Wouldn't it be something if someone tells you that the owl is not a vase and is worth lots of money!

  9. I've never seen a pan like that, I don't think, Lynn, but I would like to see the cake you prepare with it. That owl is adorable. My son has always liked owls, the way you like Earl and his buddies, ever since he was a very little boy. I have no idea what yours is, but could he be a jar that was filled with jelly or honey? The lip around the top may have held a metal lid, like the cream cheese blends that came in juice glasses--do you know what I mean? Maybe a vase, but that seems small for a vase. Linda

  10. The owl is darling. We had an owl hooting in our yard this evening. Owls are big now just like in the seventies.

  12. I have 2 of them and have done posts on them. I got mine with the Tiara mix long time ago. Great for strawberry shortcake, blueberry, banana cream and my fave, black forest cake. They are similar to what they call a Marianne pan.
    Have fun with it!
    Here come da rain!
