Paula Deen! She's a true character that's loving life, and I've liked every recipe of hers I've tried!
**Note, since the 15th is on a weekend, linky will be up on Friday 5/13 and it will run through 5/16.
The preface to her book It Ain't All About The Cooking really caught my eye:
I never call myself a chef, never went to chef school... I'm a cook.
Learned at my Grandmomma's stove.
But I can cook honey, cook rings around all those tall-white-hatted chefs.
I love that!
I thought I'd suggest something we could whip up and take out onto the porch to nibble on. You know, while enjoying the weather and a nice cold beverage of choice. I'm a sucker for a great appetizer, not to mention bacon:@) Or pick any Paula recipe of your choice!
Sweet Chicken Bacon Wraps
1 1/4lbs Chicken, cut into 1" cubes
1lb bacon, cut into thirds
2/3 C brown sugar
2 Tblsp chili powder
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Wrap each piece of chicken with bacon and secure with wooden pick.
- Stir together brown sugar and chili powder.
- Dredge chicken in mixture.
- Coat a rack and broiler pan in non-stick cooking spray.
- Place chicken on rack and bake 30-35 minutes, until bacon is crispy.
You can watch the Foodtv.com video of Paula making these HERE.

The Winner!
Ok, I don't have a cute dog or parrot to fetch the winner out of a bowl...
If you've been around Pig In Mud for a while you know that Earl is no stranger to duct tape...
While it may not be dignified... I wanted him to choose the winner for April's give-away,
so I put all of the names in a bag and dropped him in... ah, let's say... caboose first...
the winner is:
Thanks so much for playing along La, I'll e-mail you for your address:@)

What a great way to pick a winner! I wonder if my dane would let me put duct tape on her butt all for the sake of a giveaway! Prolly not! Congrats to La! Now to go and find a Paula recipe! Love and Best Dishes Y'all!
ReplyDeleteLove your method, too funny!
ReplyDeleteI am sure I'll find something loaded with buttah to make! :)
I love Paula Deen! I hope to join in for this party. I was being a new Grandma and missed April's. Good choice! hugs, Linda (PS Tell Earl he did a good job of choosing a winner)
ReplyDeleteThat Earl is up to any job! Congratulations to La! ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to La! You know, so many of the popular chefs did not go to cooking school - Julia, Paula, Martha, and last night I saw Patricia Wells speak. She also learned to cook when her husband was transferred to Paris. I guess the lesson here is to do something you are passionate about! I just read Savannah Style, honey, so I'll be joining the fun with y'all. And what does Earl think of your choice of appetizer? Linda
ReplyDeleteGirl you and Earl are too much!! I had to wait to comment. Had to stop laughing first.
ReplyDeletePaula is a love. She and all three of her men have been good publicity for Savannah. She is always doing for others.
BTW, not a lot of people in Savannah sound like her but we DO have our accents.
The recipe sounds great and easy. Don't know how I missed that one.

ReplyDeleteHoping to join your cook along. :)
I would like to join in, but have never participated in a cook-along.....do I post the recipe on my own site and link here?
ReplyDeleteI want to cook a Paula Dean recipe on the 15th!!! I'm new to your blog (I followed you), but here's my funny Paula Dean story. My uncles' assisted living facility called & asked if I'd like to bake a pumpkin pie for the contest during their fall festival. I agreed, then later remembered I'd never made a pumpkin pie evah! So I went online and found Paula Dean with a recipe - of course my pie won first prize!!! You gotta love Paula, right?!?!
