Black Petunias-Cool or Kinda Creepy?

I'm always thrilled when I find something I've never seen before at the garden center. Are black petunias new to you too? They are a true black, and have a gorgeous sheen. The guy at the nursery told me they had them years ago and nobody bought them, then they were featured in a gardening magazine and now they sell out quickly!

Well, my timing must have been good, I picked one up for Ma for Mother's Day.
Luckily she did think they are cool... and not at all creepy:@)
As a woman was taking a huge pot of them to the register she said she prefers to think of them as "mysterious".

Have a happy day!

  4. I'm so glad that you shared a photo of your Ma's basket, Lynn! I don't think they're creepy at all, and I love that they're paired with some red verbena for contrast. I hope your Mother's Day was wonderful!

  5. I've never seen the black petunias but now I know they exist, I'm going to try and find some for myself. I think they are beautiful.....not creepy at all...especially when you add color to the mix like the ones you did for your mother.

  6. I've never seen black petunias, but I think they would also nicely pair with yellow petunias or white ones. I'll have to see if I can find them at our nursery. Today I'm going to try to find my pond plants.

  8. They are beautiful! Perfect to mix with brights. I had tulips that color one year and I planted them with white and bright pink tulips, they were a show stopper.

  10. Mysterious is the perfect description Lynn! Love how velvety they look in black. The garden centers should stock them in September so they can be enjoyed for a couple a months before Halloween, they'd be fun spilling out of a pumpkin vase :)

  12. I do think they are cool and I tried them a couple of years ago. It was a fun experiment but for me, they kind of got lost in the container and didn't stand out because of their dark color. I just finished my plant buying and now it's going to be 39 at night for the next couple of days. I guess I'll have to wait to plant!
