The thrill of my day was finding a Ziplock baggy stuffed full of doilies, price not marked...
I asked the girl working there and she said $2. Oh, I think I can handle that:@)
In addition to the 60"x16" machine made runner above, all (but one?) of the rest are hand crocheted:
Ma thinks the pinecone shaped ones may be to protect the arms of chairs, any other thoughts?
I have 4 of the round circles, all different sizes from 11" to 13".
The rectangle in the upper left is the only one stained and ripped, not sure if it's a keeper.
The lower rectangle is the other one that may be machine made, if it was by hand someone shrunk it badly!
Any idea what this is? I've never seen one before... it has pretty embroidery on the corners, 17" square.
And this my friends, is why I bought the bag... Drum Roll Please!!!
10 1/2" x 23"
(Click for a better pic)
If Sheila was closer I would ask her to stop by and get a great pic with her snazzy new camera!
So there you have it folks, 12 doilies for $2!
Ever since I saw Gail at Faithfulness Farm make a doily runner HERE, it's been on my mind.
Don't know if I'll do it just yet, but I'm well on my way to a great supply of doilies!
Did the one with the four lace corners maybe drape over a small round table? That's what I would do with it anyway. Great find!
ReplyDeleteYou got a steal on all of those doilies!! I'm always amazed at all the work that goes into making one of those. It will be fun to see what you do with all of them.
ReplyDeleteJane
It is always fun to find doilies and even more fun to get them a such a great price. Thanks for sharing about the table runner made with doilies, I took a look and think I might like to try that.
ReplyDeleteIs there any chance it is an arm chair arm arm cover? I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteLooks like you really scored with that shopping trip. Great doilies and in really good condition but for that one. That 4 cornered one might have been for the small square telephone tables in the olden days...lol...That's all I can think of.
ReplyDeleteScore! You really hit the jackpot, Lynn!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Sheila :-)
That last one is filet crochet, great find.....the other one is for hot rolls or buns in a basket or bowl. The 4 corners fold over to keep the contents warm.....
ReplyDeleteWhat a great day you had! I love doilies, I have them everywhere. What a dream it would be to make something from them. Love your new napkins, too!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Hi,
ReplyDeleteThe four cornered piece with embroidered corners is for a bread basket. You fold each corner over to cover the bread...
Enjoy...Wow, you did well on your thrift shopping today.

I love blogging. That's my good friend dgmills/Donnie2 that knew what that 4 corner doily thingy was. Such fun.
ReplyDeleteThe one piece is for a bread basket - it has four points. That's what I use my for anyway and I think it's pretty as well as functional, esp for holidays when you want everything nice.
ReplyDeleteYou got some great buys.
Blessings, Barb
Great, wonderful finds. I was going to tell you about the bread basket one, but I see somebody has already posted it.
ReplyDeleteD
I'm thinking the one with the four corners is also for a bread basket. I just took something similar to it out of my mom's china cabinet drawers and it has 'hot rolls' embroidered on it. what fun finds!
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn, thank you so much for your sweet comments on my posts. I am finally trying to visit some. the trip to Atlanta was fun and after five days exhausting.
ReplyDeleteI love your thrift finds. The doilies are a real bargain. The one that had four sides is for a bread basket. You fold each section over the bread. Oops! I guess someone has already told you about the bread basket one.
Very nice and your favorite piece is awesome. Really the best of the bunch. The runner is so pretty and wide. I do love the flowers on the napkins too. I do love to thrift shop.
Time to start dinner so I better get going. Busy me!!!
Keep on thriftin,
Hugs, Jeanne
OOOOOOH! You got a great deal there! I think your mom is right. The ovally ones are for the arms of a chair and the circle one is for the back of the chair. They used to use doilies on the backs of chairs because men used bear grease in their hair. When they leaned back it would get on the chair. They changed them often, like pillow cases. Great finds!
ReplyDeleteTerrific luck! ♥♫
ReplyDeleteOh my! such beautiful linens!!
ReplyDelete"LOVE,LOVE,LOVE" doilies!!! Just the thought of those Very Special Ladies sitting there pouring their love into their work makes me BUY Every Single One I see!!! Ahhh, you Lucky Lady!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your bountiful find!
Hugs to you,
Donna
You hit the linen jackpot today! I love vintage linens. Are you going to set a table with them so we can all oooooh and aaaah?
ReplyDeleteI think the square-ish linen is a bun cloth. Put it in a basket fill with rolls or bread and cross over the edges. This is a very pretty piece!
Yvonne
Lynn,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful finds! Fascinating origins. I never would have known the use for the breadbasket one!
It's for your dinner rolls. You lay it in basket, put the rolls on top and then fold all 4 corners over the top to help keep them warm. You sure found lots of pretty lace!
ReplyDeleteBe ashamed of yourself!! I'll bet you backed out of the store and started running. OMG, I want to go junking with you. Great haul! Hugs, Ginger
ReplyDeleteWell of course I love your doilies! LUCKY!!
ReplyDeleteThis is the stuff of my dreams! I love it all!
ReplyDeleteYou got some great bargains! The odd shaped one is for a bread basket, the corners cover the rolls or bread. I have a few of those that were my grandmother's.
ReplyDeleteLove all your dollies!! Great find! I see someone else told you the 4 corner was for a bread basket! hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteThe four-cornered piece is indeed for a bread/roll basket....fold those corners over the hot stuff to keep them warm!
ReplyDeleteI love thrift shopping! You got quite a deal with those doilies. :)
ReplyDeleteI love them! I'm such a linen fan, and I love doilies.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read the other comments, but that mystery one looks like the shape of one that goes over biscuits in a basket. You put it on the bottom and then pull the funky looking sides over the hot stuff.
Wow! Great finds at great prices, Lynn!....Christine
ReplyDeleteHello Lynn,
ReplyDeletethe doilies are great. You have done very right to buy them.

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. I agree with the others about the odd shaped linen. I think it was used in a bread basket.
ReplyDeleteYou really scored some lovelies! I especially like the Boopie glass. Now if I can just commit that name to memory. My good friend collects this design and I like it as well. 25 cents! Woohoo! Great shopping day!
Tammy
Beautiful finds. I agree that the four corner linen is for a bread basket. I bought some last summer not knowing what they were either.I used mine as a doilie, lol.
ReplyDeleteAwesome finds Lynn! The doily you weren't sure about with the points is for a bread basket then you cover the bread/rolls up with the corners. I love those! All the doilies are wonderful! And the Boopie glass was a steal! Thanks for joining me for TTF!
