Decorating Pen Review

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for your kind words and well wishes, life is slowly getting back to normal:@) It dawned on me that I promised to do a comparison and share my thoughts on a couple decorating pens I tried.

I fell into a great Williams-Sonoma on-line sale where the pens were marked down to
99¢ with free shipping, so I grabbed a few. Kathleen if you're out there...
please don't tell me they're 29¢ -buy one get one free- every day at the outlet!!!
Tip: Every time they ask you for your e-mail address at the store give it to them. They say the more often you buy, they e-mail better specials to you. I've seen a big difference!

I also found these from Cake Mate on clearance for 50¢ at Walmart after Christmas.

My cookies, using the Message Cookie Cutters from W-S.

Cake Mate:

My thoughts: No doubt about it, the quality of the W-S pens is far superior. It stays shiny and I think it tastes a bit like chocolate too. Make sure you heat them up on the hot water as directed, that is key.
You can't be too detailed with the Cake Mate pens. They would be fun for kids though, they're even marketed that way "perfect for little hands to handle" is written on  the box.

Just this reporter's opinion:@)
Have a happy day!

  2. Ohhhhh, great information! I would love to try those icing pens. YOur cookies are so pretty too!
    xo Yvonne

  3. The cookies look awesome! I bet that is a lot of fun too!

  4. Hi - I'm glad to hear that things are looking up for you. These WS do look better - definitely - I might try them on the tops of some petit fours!! Thanks for sharing, ciao, bella!

  5. Good info--thanks! I always give my e-mail and zip code in the hope they will build a store a few blocks from me = )!!

Good to hear that you are moving on. Otherwise, the "nasties" win!

  6. Hi lovely lady.

I'm so happy to see you are back sweet lady..
The cookies look Great !!! I will be right over OK. I hope you have a sweet Day !!!

  7. Oh, am liking those pens, will give them a try.....glad you are making a come-back.....and by the way, made your rice pudding two nights ago, and it is to die for!!! Everyone loved it and only one small portion left....and its mine!!! hugs...cleo

  8. I'd be happy to be a taste tester for you.

  9. Good to know! Can't wait to see Kathleen's comment :)

  10. I almost bought some the other day. Now I will surely buy some and be a much more informed consumer! Thanks Lynn.

  11. Anytime we have decorated cookies they are from a bakery...lol...I truly admire all you who do it yourselves.

  12. Lynn, I am soooo sorry to hear about the break-in. That would really make me angry too. What if we all lived good moral lives, wouldn't the world be a much better place!

The cookies are so wonderful. I adore those printed ones. I haven't seen those. The little icing writers are fun. I had some Easter colored ones years ago. I thought mine were colored/white chocolate too.

  13. How talented you are with the Mighty Deco Pen! Love those cookies...and thanks for the report!

I've been away and am blog hoppin' to catch up with everyone. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week....Sue

  14. Hello Lynn,
those cookies look so adorable. Really good job!
    Greetings, Johanna

  15. Thanks for the review. I've never tried pens myself and they look like something my girls will love. Going with the Williams-Sonoma!!
    Blessings, Debbie

  16. So glad you're feeling better, Lynn! And I enjoyed seeing your work with the frosting pens.

    Sheila :-)

  17. P.S. I missed you at Shelia's blog party? Did you participate and me somehow miss the fact that you did?

  18. I wish I could participate in Sheila's kitchen parties but unfortunately my kitchen is not Blog worthy! My home was built in 1956 and it is original, right down to the metal cabinets! I love Sheila and I struggled to try to come up with some way to participate, but I just don't have anything. Couldn't even come up with something silly-total bummer:@(

  19. I'm so glad you did this little comparison. It's good to know! I love to decorate cookies, and I just use my old fashioned squirty thing. Now, I'll be on the lookout for WS on sale.

And I will be much more willing to share my email, too.

  20. Hi Lynn, SO GOOD TO SEE YOU, "HUG,HUG"!!! Thank you for the comparison! LOVE your cookies, "YUMMMY"! I didn't do Sheila's party either. I'm not finished with my kitchen yet, SO I'll just visit everyone instead...

  21. Hi Lynn! I hope you're feeling better about what happened to your home. I prayed for you last night.
Now those little decorating icing pens are wonderful! You're good.
    be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  22. Thanks for sharing the information. I've never tried any of these.
I read your note about the Cupboard Party. I didn't have a post to share on this either. Felt bad about not participating, but just didn't come up with something. ;-)

  23. I'm glad things are getting better for you. Love these decorating pens.

  24. Cute cookies! I love the cookie stamps too. :)

  25. Lynn,
You did a great job with these. I can't keep a steady hand with items like this. Very nice.

Thanks for stopping by!
