And what hurts even more than pride is the fact that it involves Ghirardelli chocolate...
Oh yes GF, I did... end up throwing out over a bag of Ghirardelli white chocolate chips-ouch!
Allow me to introduce...
Easter Egg Hunt Fudge
The idea was to give a wink and nod to an egg hunt with green coconut grass and jelly beans as the eggs.
Yea, don't do that...

Does it look like the eggs were run over by a lawn mower to anyone else?
Not the look I was going for. Not to mention it was so sweet it hurt!
Thought about sticking the coconut to the top and adding a jelly bean, decided it would be too messy.

Now for the happy ending... let's talk about fudge, the edible, adult kind:@)
Coconut is a great addition to this easy vanilla fudge!
Coconut Fudge
3 C white chocolate chips-I used Ghirardelli
14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
1/4 C butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
*1 1/2 C coconut
- Line an 8x8 pan with foil on bottom and up the sides so you can lift the fudge out of the pan.
- Put chips and milk in a 2 quart sauce pan and heat very slowly over low heat, stirring constantly until the chips melt. If you'd like to melt this in the microwave please see the Maple Walnut Fudge post.
- Take off heat and add vanilla, stir until incorporated.
- *Stir in coconut, work quickly.
- Pour into pan, spread evenly and smooth top.
- Cool uncovered in fridge until firm, approximately 2 hours.
- Cut into small squares, and enjoy.
Have a happy day:@)
I have never had good luck with regular old fudge for some odd reason. Yet, I would still try this because the ingredients make me want to try it. It sounds yummy.
ReplyDeleteMy husband makes GREAT fudge. He just follows the recipe off the Creme Marshmallow jar for 'Fantasy Fudge', and he uses Ghirardelli chocolate and Raw Sugar. Works like a charm. :-))
ReplyDeleteThat's what they have "test kitchens" for! I'd say you were doing a good job in creating a new candy. But tossing out an entire bag of chocolate? Aaaargh!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
Too sweet and it does look like it was run over...lol. Now this recipe you included looks yummy!Hugs,Linda
ReplyDeleteFunny. Yep, I had a fail, of sorts, yesterday. I made a root beer float cake that ended up not tasting like root beer, but wasn't bad. My fudge frosting was more like a glaze and I found out why...forgot to add the cocoa powder, still tasted good, just not the effect I was going for. ; (
ReplyDeleteI made fudge once and it was on the can of evaporated milk or sweetened condensed milk, don't remember. I do not think this looks bad. xo
ReplyDeletehah, I do not make fudge, although I LOVE it for that very reason...yes, we all fail so deep breath and move forward!
ReplyDeletelaughing at your lawn mower...
ReplyDeletelast time i made fudge i had to eat it with a spoon!!!

Hmmm. Just found your blog and you are funny. Which means ...I'll be back!
ReplyDeleteNo Lynn, you are not alone!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I have been having TOO MANY of those days Lately! As a matter of fact "I THINK TODAY is ONE OF THOSE DAYS"! I put all my supper in my SLOW COOKER at 2PM and I'm expecting SUPPER TO BE AT 5ish! HAHAHA!!! We are having split pea and ham hock soup....Well, do you think we'll make it??? Thank you SO MUCH for letting me know "I'm not alone"!!!
Big Squishy Hugs,
Donna
Lynn I would have eaten that "run over by a lawmower" fudge anyway...lol! I like white chocolate, but no one else in my family does so I usually don't buy it.
ReplyDeleteOH I CRACKED UP when I read your words blazoned across the photo. EPIC FAIL! So truthful and funny. Honestly, my epic fail was a red velvet cake I baked for a movie star's party. It was HORRIBLE. So I cut it up into small pieces and decorated each piece with an edible flower. Everyone loved it, but it was so overbeaten, holey, terrible. Embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteAll joys and thanks for the laughs,

I think I'd rather forego the jelly beans if I were to eat the fudge labeled as Epic Fail, but it sure is pretty!
ReplyDeleteMister loves coconut. Bet he'd like that recipe!
I hate it when good ingredients go into a bad recipe! Now if it had dark chocolate, I'd really be upset :)
ReplyDeleteLOL - no fudge is a fail that tastes good. But it did look a bit like something you'd see under a microscope not in an Easter basket.
ReplyDeleteToo funny Lynn because my friend saw them make this on a local TV show and she was telling me about it and she wanted me to try it! Glad you tried it out first - ha ha! I had one of those days last week. I tried making the cupcake with the Cadbury egg in the bottom and you could have gagged me with how sweet it was and it didn't look cute like theirs did when I cut it open. Fortunately I only made 4 and the rest I did plain. They 4 got tossed!
ReplyDeleteThese almost look like the Brach's Jelly Nougets. Love those. I bet these are good.
ReplyDeleteI make the creme marshmallow fudge and use a candy thermometer. It is easy and tastes lovely. I mess up in the kitchen all the time Lynn. You hang in there.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a new creation. It is frustrating when things don't turn out as we hoped. I do love the recipe for coconut fudge that you've shared with us. Have a great day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteOh no! So sorry your candy didn't turn out as well as you had hoped it would.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it looks that bad...but when you said it was so sweet it 'hurt', I had to laugh! and yes, I have made some dreadful goofs, but we won't talk about them! xo
ReplyDeleteOh well, it's nice to see a failed cooking experience once in awhile.
ReplyDeleteWell, it doesn't look that bad...until you look at it for a while. I hate flops, but we all have them. I love it that you are brave enough to tell us!
ReplyDeleteSorry it didn't turn out the way you wanted it too...glad to see I'm not the only one ;)
ReplyDeletebut you came through in the end!!
*hugs*deb
