Jam Schmeared Crescent Rolls with Cinnamon Glaze

I usually have a can of rolls in the refrigerator in case I need them for Sunday dinner, but decided to go the breakfast route this time... These Jam Schmeared Crescent Rolls with Cinnamon Glaze literally come together in no time and will be on your table in about 30 minutes total. Not to mention the house will smell pretty good too:@) I like using the term schmear in the title because we really only want to use a small amount of jam so it doesn't make a mess as mine did below. I also like using jam or preserves that have the little bits of fruit in them, not jelly. As for the glaze, cinnamon adds some extra flavor, or you could use pumpkin spice if you'd like. Or omit the spice and have a milk glaze, or maybe add a touch of vanilla or lemon extract if that sounds good. We like options here at Pig In Mud!

Out of the oven cooling a bit before the glaze.
Oooey, sticky goodness...

Jam Schmeared Crescent Rolls with Cinnamon Glaze
8 oz can crescent rolls
Jam or preserves, flavor of choice

Glaze
1/4 C powdered sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Enough milk or Half and Half to make a thick glaze
  1. Add parchment to baking sheet (I just lined mine with foil).
  2. Unroll the dough, separate into triangles.
  3. Spread a small amount of jam onto dough, leave about 1/2" around the edge without jam to help the dough stick together.
  4. Starting with the wide end, roll the dough. Place the open end down on the parchment, shape into a crescent shape.
  5. Bake per package directions.
  6. Remove from oven and allow to cool for about 5 minutes.
  7. Mix glaze in small bowl. Go easy on the milk, it will come together quickly and you may only need a tablespoon or less. If it gets too thin add more powdered sugar.
  8. Drizzle over rolls.
Enjoy a treat and
Have a Happy Day:@)

Pumpkin Crescent Rolls with Marshmallow -Breakfast Danish

I wanted to try something new, yet easy, for breakfast... These Pumpkin Crescent Rolls with Marshmallow made a nice Sunday breakfast pastry:@) I even assembled them on the parchment lined baking sheet making clean-up a snap. Simply smear the pumpkin mixture all over the roll, add a few mini marshmallows, roll up, sprinkle with some sugar and spice, and bake. Pour a strong cuppa and breakfast is served. Thinking holidays? Use colored sugar or switch out the sugar/spice topping for a glaze for a fancier presentation. This is a nice way to use up some leftover pumpkin puree.

Tip: I made these in my traditional oven. If you have access to a convection oven, I feel crescent rolls get even flakier in a convection oven.

Have a little pumpkin mixture leftover? Add to a coffee cup, pour in coffee, sweeten with some of the sugar/spice, whipped cream topping is always nice, and enjoy a cup of pumpkin spice coffee:@) Don't want the puree in your cup? Add pumpkin to the filter in the basket of a drip coffee maker.

Pumpkin Crescent Rolls with Marshmallow
For each 8 count tube of crescent rolls:
1/2 C pumpkin puree-may have a little left over
up to 1/4 C brown sugar-I used half
1 tsp pumpkin spice
24 mini marshmallows-more if desired
Cinnamon or pumpkin spice and sugar for tops
  1. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix pumpkin, sugar and spice.
  3. Unroll dough, spread pumpkin mixture all over dough.
  4. Add three mini marshmallows to widest end and roll up into crescent shape.
  5. Place on baking sheet and sprinkle top with sugar spice mixture.
  6. Bake at temperature and time recommended on package.
  7. Remove from oven and let sit on baking sheet for a couple minutes before serving.
Eat well and Have a Happy Day:@)

Crescent Roll Apple Pie Danish

I had a few apples to use up and decided to treat myself to these easy little Crescent Roll Apple Pie Danish for breakfast. Store bought rolls, an apple, some cinnamon and sugar... Wa-la, breakfast is served:@) Pillsbury adds some butter and used apple pie spice. I chose to add a little sprinkle of pumpkin spice, and topped them with some sanding sugar. Two suggestions: 1. Add the apple slices to a bowl, cover it and microwave for about 45 seconds, let them cool. This will help the apples soften up a bit more. 2. These danish would be ~wonderful~ with a pretty white confectioners sugar glaze. Next time...
Get the kids involved folks,
they'd love to help with this one:@)

Crescent Roll Apple Pie Danish-from Pillsbury
1 apple, peeled, cored and cut into 8 pieces-I cut mine into 16
*I microwaved my apples for a bit and added 2 slices per danish
3 Tblsp butter, melted-I did not use this
8 Crescent Rolls, separated
1/3 C packed brown sugar
1 tsp apple pie spice
  1. Drizzle 1 Tblsp butter over sliced apples, set aside.
  2. Mix sugar and spice. Spread evenly over the 8 triangles of dough.
  3. Add apple to wide end, roll up.
  4. Place on parchment covered baking sheet.
  5. Brush top with reserved butter.
  6. Bake at 375 degrees for approximately 12-14 minutes. Watch carefully towards end.
  7. Cool.
  8. Optional: Add extra dusting of spice or powdered sugar, or drizzle with glaze. Or turn into a dessert and serve with ice cream as Pillsbury suggests.
Eat well and have a happy day:@)

Last Minute Easter: Canned Biscuit Bunnies, Barbie Bunny Ears & What's Your Easter Bunny Name?

If I had planned this post, I would have had string licorice for whiskers and other candies on hand, but this was literally an a-ha moment, throw it together kinda thing... I also would have added some spring sprinkles to the solid white iced one. Yep, planning is a good thing folks:@) But what this ~does~ show is, these little Easter Bunny Biscuits can be whipped up in no time to add to the kid's Easter fun! Simply shape, pinch the dough so it holds together, and bake per package instructions. Let cool for about 10 minutes so the icing doesn't melt and run off, decorate as desired. I used M&M's and a pink jelly bean.

And speaking of last minute and super easy...
These Bunny Ears for Barbie were one of my first Barbie crafts,
and after almost 10 years, still one of the cutest!

And just for fun...
What's your Easter Bunny name?
I'm sure the kids will get a giggle from this:

Christmas Tree Cinnamon Rolls -Canned Biscuits

Every once in a while I pick up a can of whomp-um cinnamon rolls to keep in the fridge. I had one, and thought it might be cute to do a little shaping to create a Canned Cinnamon Roll Christmas Tree for breakfast. And of course what makes them extra special is the drizzle of icing (which comes with the rolls) and some festive holiday sprinkles. Easy-peasy and the kids will love them! At first I was going to shape each little roll, but then I remembered I had this pan from the thrift store, I likey:@) It doesn't have to be a tree shape, if you have a cute holiday baking pan that you think might work, give it a try (before Christmas if in doubt).

Shape, bake as directed on the package,
cool about 10 minutes, and decorate.

Two more cute ideas for a pan like this:

Cinnamon Roll Butterflies from Canned Biscuits

I thought these Cinnamon Roll Butterflies from Pillsbury were so cute I just had to whip some up to share the idea:@) Super simple, canned cinnamon rolls and maraschino cherries. This is a fun sleepover project, or would be great for a lazy Sunday morning breakfast. Whenever you serve them, may I suggest we get the kids involved... It's a great beginner kitchen project, even the youngest child can help if you use a pizza cutter instead of a knife to cut the biscuits. Or have them add some sprinkles after they are iced. Have the time to add a little something extra? You could tint the icing a couple different colors, that would be pretty too.

Pillsbury used the cherry stems for antenna...
My cherries didn't have stems?
S'up with that Walmart???

So I just thinly sliced some lime rind/peel,
crisis averted:@)

Cinnamon Roll Butterflies-from Pillsbury
  1. Cut maraschino cherries in half (one cherry per butterfly). Drain cut side down on paper towel. Save the stems if you have them.
  2. Separate rolls, cut in half. Place icing back in fridge.
  3. Place rolls on baking sheet, curved sides together. Press where they meet a little so they stick together. Also, make sure all of the dough is touching in the 'wings'.
  4. Bake per instructions.
  5. Cool ~at least~ 10 minutes.
  6. Cut small hole in icing bag, pipe on wings. You can click to see how Pillsbury did it, I flooded the main part of the wings and added sprinkles.
  7. Add cherries to center of butterfly to create body. Poke hole with toothpick to add stems, or whatever you're using, as antenna.
  8. Serve and enjoy!

Bacon Crescent Rolls

These Bacon Crescent Rolls were a very nice addition to Sunday dinner, and paired perfectly with a hearty beef stew:@) I saw this idea on Taste of Home, and made it even easier by using some pre-cooked bacon crumbles I had in the freezer. Nothing ground breaking here folks, just an easy way to turn canned rolls into something a tad more special. Don't hesitate to give it a try if you have some bacon to use up, I do look forward to making these again.

The original recipe saved some bacon and pressed it into the top of the rolls.
I just sprinkled on anything that fell out after I rolled them up.

Bacon Crescent Rolls
Tube of crescent rolls
Approximately 6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
Onion powder
  1. Separate dough.
  2. Sprinkle each with onion powder and bacon.
  3. Roll-up and bake per package instructions.

Cinnamon Raisin Crescent Roll Danish

Baby, it's cold outside! Morning temperatures were around 10 degrees here in Philly last weekend. I don't mind saying by the time Sunday got here, I didn't want to leave the house. A craving for something sweet with my coffee led me to the kitchen to see what I had to work with... I try to always have a can of crescent rolls in the fridge, and the Pillsbury site suggested these Cinnamon Raisin Crescent Roll Danish. They did not disappoint:@)

From refrigerator to plate in about 30 minutes:@)
I'll list what I did below, saving a few calories by omitting the extra butter,
you can click the link to see the original recipe.

Cinnamon Raisin Crescent Roll Danish-adapted from Pillsbury
Crescent rolls
cinnamon
raisins
powdered sugar-Pillsbury used 1 C, this makes a lot of glaze
vanilla
half and half or other milk
  1. Unroll and separate crescent rolls. Liberally cover whole roll surface with cinnamon, sprinkle each roll with raisins. Roll up and place on parchment lined (for easy clean-up) baking sheet.
  2. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  3. While baking, mix powdered sugar with a splash of vanilla and ~just enough~ milk/half and half/cream to make a thick drizzle.
  4. Allow rolls to cool for about 5 minutes, drizzle with glaze and serve.
Stay warm, enjoy an easy treat, and have a happy day:@)

Cheddar and Rosemary Canned Crescent Rolls

Just a quick idea today, these Cheddar and Rosemary Crescent Rolls are simply canned biscuits that I doctored up a bit. We had them with Chili for Sunday dinner, and they were a big hit! There really isn't a recipe, I laid the triangles of dough flat, sprinkled them with shredded cheese and minced fresh rosemary, rolled them up and baked per package instructions. It's just a fun way to make a simple crescent roll just a little fancier:@) I always buy white cheddar, but I think yellow would add a nice bit of color if you have it.

Pesto & Parmesan Crescent Roll Christmas Tree

Pillsbury wrote this Pesto & Parmesan Crescent Roll Christmas Tree up as a three ingredient recipe. Mine ended up with a couple more ingredients, one because I wanted to add some roasted red peppers for color. And two because I, um, didn't re-read the instructions and didn't have a block of parmesan cheese... I ended up using shredded mozzarella and just sprinkling the canned parm over the baked rolls. I think it kind of looks like snow:@) We had this cute tree with spaghetti for Sunday dinner and I have to say, it was enjoyed by all!

Pesto & Parmesan Crescent Roll Christmas Tree-from Pillsbury
8 oz can of Crescent rolls
3 oz solid parmesan cheese
1/4 C pesto sauce
Optional: Roasted red pepper dried well between paper towels for garnish if desired
  1. Cut parm into 3 equal pieces, save one for grating (I used the grated parm in the can). Cut the 2 other pieces into 16 cubes each. (Or use shredded Mozzarella, messy but good.)
  2. Unroll dough, form into 12 x 9" rectangle, pressing seams closed.
  3. Cut into 8 x 4 squares, 32 total, you can see it here.
  4. Create the layers of the tree...
  5. Wrap each square of dough around a cube of cheese. Pinch seam closed. Place seam side down onto cookie sheet (I lined mine with parchment paper). You'll make circles of dough, 10 pieces, 8 pieces, 6, 4, 3 and then 1 ball. Have the sides of the dough touching each other in their own groups/circle.
  6. Bake at 375 for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Using a wide spatula, remove largest circle to plate, brush with pesto, sprinkle with a little parm. Keep building up the layers the same way.
  8. Add peppers for garnish if using.
Eat well and have a happy holiday season:@)

Cherry Pie Cups - 2 Ingredient Canned Cinnamon Buns and Cherry Pie Filling

I was stopping over to Ma's one morning and told her I'd bring a munchie. We whipped up these Cherry Pie Cups using nothing more than a tube of store bought cinnamon buns (the ones you open by hitting on the counter), and can of cherry pie filling. Seriously easy and they can be made with any canned pie filling that goes well with cinnamon. We just fished 6 or so out of the jell for each danish/cupcake. Plan on about 15 minutes prep time, 13-15 minutes baking time and at least 15 minutes resting time so the icing doesn't totally melt from the heat. Ma's quote after the first bite "wow, that's better than I expected" :@)

2-Ingredient Cherry Pie Cups-adapted from Pillsbury
  1. Spray 8 regular size muffin cups with cooking spray, I used Aldi's brand of Baker's Joy-love that brand!
  2. Pop open tube of cinnamon rolls (the ones that need to be baked) Press one muffin into and up the sides of each cup.
  3. Spoon cherry pie filling into each muffin. I fished 6-7 cherries out of the gel for each one.
  4. Bake at 400 degrees 14-18 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool in pan for 5 minutes.
  5. Remove muffins from pan, allow to cool 10 minutes longer. Drizzle icing over muffins.
Pour a strong cuppa and have a happy day:@)

Saturday ReView: Two Ingredient Apple Pie Cups and Recycled Can Barbie Storage

As summer begins to come to an end my thoughts turn to football season and baking! These Two Ingredient Apple Pie Cups couldn't be easier and they are a nice project that kids can help make too. They simply call for a can of cinnamon rolls and a can of pie filling. While I haven't tried it, I'm sure you could also use peach pie filling. So don't hesitate to whip some up if you have a little extra time one weekend morning:@)

And I love this idea for using Recycled Spaghetti Sauce Cans for Barbie Storage! The cans are tall enough that the dolls can stand upright, helping to keep their hair neater. They can be decorated with anything desired, girls can even do that themselves.

Front row craft links:

I used three cans, you can add as many as you need, or make a couple groups of them.

Directions:
1. Peel label off of cans, wash well and dry.
2. Cover in decorative paper.
3. Tie cans together with ribbon and make a pretty bow.
4. Done😎

I'm always amused by the small stuff folks,
after I pulled the labels of off the cans and washed them I noticed this😊

Wednesday ReView: Mardi Gras-Beignets (Donuts from Canned Biscuits) & Barbie's Jester Headband

Fat Tuesday is next week so I thought I'd share a simple idea for some Beignets (or Donuts) from canned biscuits. I made an orange zest version pictured here, you could coat them in a more traditional powdered sugar if desired. And even Barbie likes to have a little Mardi Gras fun...

These jester headbands are colorful, festive, and come together in no time. All that's required is the ring from a screw-on bottle cap and some bump chenille pipe cleaners in green, gold and purple. I added some gold beads to the tips too, you could also use really small bells, pom-poms, or any other embellishment that sounds like fun.

The headband is cute for both Ken and Barbie😉

Simply twist the pipe cleaners around the ring and shape into curves... Wa-la!
No beads for the ends? Just give each tip a little curl to create the illusion of a ball.

More Mardi Gras:

Clover Shaped Crescent Rolls and St. Patrick's Day Little Red Truck

These Clover Shaped Crescent Rolls are a fun idea for St. Patrick's Day dinner. I started with a tube of store bought rolls and simply shaped them a little differently. The only thing to remember is, you'll want to work quickly, the key to crescent rolls is, the dough has to stay cold for them to puff and rise nicely. You'll notice below that I was curious to see how they'd look with a little green sugar embellishment... That's totally optional:@)

Make two cuts in the wide end of the crescent and roll up.
I do suggest turning the center one the other way (opposite of this picture and more like the first roll shown),
so the cut ends are more pointed up and towards the middle.
Scrunch the stem up and give it a little twist to make it thicker so it doesn't get too dark.
Bake as usual.

Silly but I'm sure the kids would get a kick out of them:@)

And it looks like I have the luck of the Irish and struck gold with my little red truck this St. Paddy's Day!

Gold coins-Woo-Hoo!

Wait...
What???
Hey come back here!!!

I was so close to being rich!
Oh well, guess I'll go get ready for work now...

Have a great St. Patrick's Day Weekend everyone:@)

50¢ Canned Biscuit Garlic Knots

My Walmart sells little cans of biscuits for 50¢ so I usually keep one in the fridge for Sundays when I'm not making bread or rolls from scratch. I've wanted to try Canned Biscuit Garlic Knots for a while and we all agreed, they turned out well! Very easy and very tasty:@) There are lots of variations, you can add Italian Seasoning or some grated Parmesan. I also think a little garlic powder or Lawry's Seasoned Salt might be nice. Actually, I'd lightly sprinkle the seasoned salt right over the top of the rolls after brushing them with the butter mixture.

How to turn plain biscuits into cute garlic knots:@)

Canned Biscuit Garlic Knots-adapted from Pillsbury
7.5 oz can of biscuits
1 Tblsp butter
1 Tblsp olive oil-can use all butter
1 clove garlic, minced
2-3 tsp fresh parsley, minced
pinch of salt
few grinds of pepper
  1. Place butter, olive oil and garlic in microwave safe bowl. Microwave for a few seconds until butter melts.
  2. Mix in parsley, salt and pepper.
  3. Cut biscuits, straighten dough slightly, twist into a knot and tuck the loose end under the roll.
  4. Place on baking sheet and brush with butter mixture.
  5. Bake at 400 degrees for approximately 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  6. Remove from oven, brush with more butter mixture and serve hot.

Halloweeny Peepers... Er, I mean Halloween Jalapeno Poppers

This isn't a new idea folks, I've seen it on Pinterest and in Rachel Ray Magazine, but I thought it would be fun to try. My spin is using the extra large bloodshot candy eyes. Timing was perfect because my planter is still loaded with jalapenos and I had some leftover cream cheese and cheddar cheeseballs... So these Halloweeny Peepers turned into a fun game day treat! Oh, and the Eagles win, well, that was just icing on 'peno:@)
Make them with any mixture you like for Poppers, you can find some stuffed jalapeno ideas HERE.
I've added the bacon label because ~of course, everything's better with bacon:@)

Halloweeny Peepers
Jalapenos, sliced in half lengthwise, seeds and membranes removed (optional)
Cream cheese type mixture-anything you like for Poppers
Crescent rolls
Eyes: candy, sliced olives, etc
  1. Stuff the peppers with mixture.
  2. Slice rolls into strips (a pizza cutter works well) and wrap them around the pepper like a mummy. Leave a wide enough opening for eyes.
  3. Bake at 375 for 11-13 minutes or until rolls are golden brown.
  4. While still warm, insert eyes and serve.

Two Ingredient Apple Pie Cups

Wow, talk about impressive looking and super easy! These Two Ingredient Apple Pie Cups are a very nice weekend treat and only require a tube of store bought cinnamon buns (the kind you peel the paper off and hit the tube on the counter to open) and a can of apple pie filling. I pressed the dough into the cupcake tin with my fingers but kinda wondered when done if using the bottom of a glass might work well too... I also brushed some of the gel from the apples before adding them to the dough. The only other thing I'd suggest is to sprinkle the tops with cinnamon and sugar after they're iced... Yep, that might be nice:@) Best served shortly after baking.
Dollar Tree has both apple pie filling and I made a cherry pie filling version here.

Don't hesitate to give this fun little treat a try folks, and get the kids involved... They'd have a blast helping smoosh the rolls into the cupcake tin. Pillsbury has a great picture tutorial here.

Here they are out of the oven and after cooling for 10-15 minutes, I iced the ones on the left. I wanted to show this so you could see that the apples stay warm longer than the biscuits, so the icing kinda melted on the apples. You may want to let them cool a little longer for prettier presentation.
Tip: Please forgive me Pillsbury... I bought the Walmart brand of cinnamon rolls and the icing came in a plastic bag that already had a little point so that if you cut the point off you can easily drizzle the icing over the muffins.

2-Ingredient Apple Pie Cups-from Pillsbury
  1. Spray 8 regular size muffin cups with cooking spray, I used Aldi's brand of Baker's Joy-love that brand!
  2. Press one muffin into and up the sides of each cup.
  3. Spoon 2 Tblsp apple pie filling into each muffin. I brushed some of the gel off and diced the apples up a bit, then just filled the cups.
  4. Bake at 400 degrees (or recommended temperature on biscuit package) 14-18 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool in pan for 5 minutes.
  5. Remove muffins from pan, allow to cool a little longer. Heat icing if it's not a drizzling consistency. Drizzle icing over muffins.
Pour a strong cuppa and have a happy day:@)

Pigs in a Blanket Stuffed Jalapenos

Oh yea, I went there:@) These Pigs in a Blanket Stuffed Jalapenos were such a fun little treat! Loved this munchie and highly recommend it if you're looking for something a little different for the playoffs or your Super Bowl Party.

The store bought crescent rolls were very easy to work with, simply cut them into three pieces with a pizza cutter. I used cocktail sausage from Aldi. You can use any little sausage or hotdogs, but it's hard to beat $1.99 at Aldi:@)

Assembly is pretty straight forward, and I do recommend baking them on foil for easy clean-up.

So cute and fun!
Serve with assorted mustards.

Pigs in a Blanket Stuffed Jalapenos
short jalapenos, just a little longer than the meat
cream cheese
cheddar or American cheese-or your cheese of choice
light sprinkle of onion powder-optional
cooked bacon, minced-optional-I didn't use this
cocktail size hotdogs or sausage
tube(s) of crescent rolls-each tube will wrap 24 hotdogs
  1. Cut jalapenos in half, clean out seeds and membranes (if desired-I desired). Bake at 375 degrees for 5 minutes. Remove from oven and cool.
  2. Add a small schmear of cream cheese to each pepper half.
  3. Add a small sliver of cheddar or American cheese to each pepper half.
  4. Sprinkle lightly with onion powder and bacon if using.
  5. Add hot dog/sausage to each pepper half.
  6. Unroll crescent rolls, slice each roll into thirds long ways. Gently stretch each piece to be able to wrap it around the pepper. Start with the wide end, tuck under stem end of pepper, wrap around pepper a couple times and tuck skinny end under dough or pepper (see pics).
  7. Bake at 375 degrees for 11-13 minutes or until rolls are golden brown.
  8. Serve with mustard or condiments of choice.

Easy Orange and Ham Pinwheels

Ever since I was a kid I've loved Pillsbury Orange Sweet Rolls! Ma was coming over for coffee so I decided to gussie them up just a bit and added a slice of ham to each roll-it turned out to be a good idea!

Anyone remember back when they used to have little bits of orange peel in the icing?
I miss that:@)

They unroll fairly easily. I cut a piece of sliced ham in half lengthwise, then folded it in half and laid it on the dough. Leave a 1/2" of the dough uncovered so you can pinch the roll back together. Then roll it back up, pinch and bake as normal.

Drizzle with icing before serving.
The ham pairs really well with the orange and we enjoyed these breakfast treats!
Have a happy day:@)
