I shared this method for perfect hard boiled eggs at Christmas, I promise it works and you don't need old eggs, salt, vinegar or anything else. In many batches I have only had one egg break as I was putting it into the boiling water and never one dinged up egg.
- Take eggs out of the fridge and set aside.
- Boil enough water in a big enough pot to cover the amount of eggs you want to make.
- Carefully add the eggs to the boiling water one by one with a big spoon.
- Reduce the heat just a bit, you still want the water boiling but not crazy. I use #7 on my electric stove.
- Boil for 15 minutes.
- Drain hot water, and cover eggs with cold water till cool. I pour the cold water off a couple times.
- Drain water and peel or refrigerate until ready to peel.
- Peel under running cold water.
Now for the fun part! I used Martha Stewart's dye recipe, all pantry ingredients.
- One tsp white vinegar (I used cider vinegar) and 5 to 20 drops of food coloring per one cup of hot water.
- Peel the eggs, and dip them into the different colors. Let them sit until you've achieved a color that you like. Blot dry.
- Cut in half and make your favorite Deviled Egg recipe!
- Have fun watching everyone flip over the cool eggs:@)
Notes:
- I used 4 drops of food coloring and let them sit in the cup for about 7 minutes.
- I did taste just the white of the egg and I could not taste any vinegar.
- Just imagine them for every holiday or in sports team colors!
Updated to show the cutter I used ($2.99 at TJ Maxx a couple years ago) and Wilton 1M tip for the filling:

ReplyDeleteHow completely perfect are these?!?! Love the look of them! And deviled eggs are a huge hit in my house! Win - win! =o)
ReplyDeleteThey turned out perfect:)
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I always make deviled eggs for big family dinners. I better try this one. My mother used to always take her canned beets out of the juice and put peeled boiled eggs in it for Easter. They were so pretty but at the time I did not like beets so I would never tried them. I think she called them pickled eggs. I cannot grow beets where we live, I have tried three years in a row so I have not tried this yet.
ReplyDeleteCute idea :)
ReplyDeleteVery pretty. Too pretty to eat!

oh what a great easter idea!! thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou can cut your eggs in half and remove the yoke, then color egg white. This gives the illusion of truely colored egg.
ReplyDeleteThis is just adorable! I found you via Kitchen Fun with my 3 Sons and am a new follower.
