Twice Baked Savory Sweet Potatoes

This is without a doubt the best flavor combination I've ever tried with sweet potatoes-absolutely love it! I also love that these Twice Baked Savory Sweet Potatoes are more of a dinner side dish than dessert. Full disclosure-while I call these "twice baked" I did steam them, mash them and then bake them. But, whatever road you take to getting them mashed and into the baking dish is up to you:@) Other options: Truly make them twice baked and scoop the filling back into the skins or they could also simply be served as mashed potatoes and save the baking time all together.
And if you tuck this idea away for Thanksgiving and are inclined to add a splash of cream or some butter to your sweet potatoes...
Well, that's what the holidays are all about-enjoy:@)

2019 Update: This could be made as mashed sweet potatoes in the slow cooker too-here.

Twice Baked Savory Sweet Potatoes-adapted from Coleen's Recipes-Sweet Potato Fries
For every 2 medium sweet potatoes:
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp smoked paprika or chipotle powder-I used chipotle powder
1 tsp chili powder
1 Tblsp brown sugar
Optional: a little butter or splash of cream
  1. Mash everything in bowl and transfer to a baking dish.
  2. Bake at 350 degrees for about 20-30 minutes or until heated through.
  3. Brown the top under the broiler for a couple minutes if desired.
Eat well and have a happy day:@)

  1. Savory sweet potatoes ~ yes! I often eat sweet potatoes, so will try this recipe. I've never liked sweet potatoes in recipes that sweeten them up. Give me savory. '-)
