Over the river and through the woods...

Wait, wait a minute, that's not quite accurate... It really was:

Down the driveway and across the street,
to the neighbor's house I go.
My feet know the way to take me today,
to deliver a bungalow...

~ ~ooohhh~ ~

Down the driveway and across the street,
oh how the wind does blow,
It stings the toes and bites the nose,
As I stop by to say hello.

Everybody join in!
You can thank me later for that song being stuck in your head for the rest of the day:@)

I'm so excited! I finally treated myself to this Nordic Ware Gingerbread House Cake Pan.
I've wanted this little beauty since I first saw it at Michael's many years ago. They don't carry them any more but I found this at Amazon.
My tip: Did you know it's easy to turn a store bought cake mix into a bundt cake:
add a box of instant pudding, add the water, increase the oil to 1/2 C and add an extra egg.
You will have a sturdier cake (more like pound cake) and the detail will hold up nicely for decorating.

Also wanted to mention:
  1. I used Baker's Joy spray for the first time and it worked very well! I look forward to trying it on other cakes.
  2. HomeGoods/Marshall's/TJ Maxx have been getting tons of different shaped NordicWare cake pans. Some are seasonal, some traditional, all cute!
I just saw this on Pinterest and wanted to add it-
How to make a box mix taste like it's from a bakery:
Step 1: Look at the directions on the cake mix,
Step 2: Add one more egg (or add 2 if you want it to be very rich),
Step 3: Use melted butter instead of oil and double the amount,
Step 4: Instead of water, use milk.
Step 5: Mix well and bake for the time recommended on the box.

Have a happy day:@)

  8. I am going to have to stop at Micheals this weekend. Since I do home made cakes they are naturally sturdier then store bought ones. But I do like the pudding touch. Your cake looks wonderful.

  14. Hi Lynn,
great way to bake a gingerbread house instead of building it from cake sheets. That looks great and yummy. Thank you for sharing this cute bungalow.
    Best greetings, Johanna

  18. Years ago a woman at William Sonoma told me to get the Wilton Cake Release from AC Moore. It works amazing for the small areas for all the cake to come out. I hear that you can also make a homemade version! I am going to have to try the Baker's Joy spray. Thanks for the recipe to make the cake mix into the heavier cake. It will help lots :)

  22. I love that pan and Baker's Joys is a favorite of mine ever since I read about it a couple of years ago. It really works. I've got to get to Marshalls to check out their Nordic Ware. I still kick myself for not buying a kugelhopf pan that I saw there last year.

  23. Oh my goodness gracious, I have never seen that adorable pan, Lynn!!!!! It is TOO, TOO cute! I am so glad you treated yourself to that beauty. That would be much more fun to eat than the cookie type gingerbread house. I have the Nordicware bundt pan with the trees on top. It's a beauty, too. I treated myself when I worked part-time at Sur La Table. Kitchen toys are the best!! Happy baking, my friend.

  27. So beautiful! I bought the mini pans last year and you have reminded me to go searching for them. What a treasure to receive. Thanks for all your tips on the cake mixes. I know there are so many homemade cake snobs out there, but I love a good cake mix - always moist!

  28. I bought that too!!!! Soooooooo much easier than trying to piece those houses together. And it's YUMMY when made. So nice & moist. You made me want to dig mine out again for this year. ENJOY! Merry Christmas!
