Friends don't let friends...

Hey everyone!
...take deep frying turkeys lightly!!! Tis the season for good ole boys to try their hand at the turkey fryer.
This was posted on seriouseats.com and I wanted to share just how serious the situation can be. I know that many folks do this well, but I'm joining Seasonal Sunday with a little public service announcement:@)
There is an interesting video in the attachment!

Please keep the fryer off of the deck, out from under the carport and in an area that a high or low fire can't
do any harm. Let's not be thankful that "at least the house didn't burn down".

Now back to your regularly scheduled silliness...
Have a happy day:@)

  4. That picture made me gasp! Hubby saw a turkey fryer yesterday and all I could think about was the mess of the oil disposal and now, well, I think I'll put the bird in the oven :)

  5. Really great reminder. Out neighbors were deep frying something on their deck at the lake and actually went out for a boat ride while it was frying. Nothing happened except they came back to some charred meat. I wouldn't use one...

    Love the cartoon!!

  6. Good reminder! Those things scare me, with all that hot oil. This is probably a traitorous thing for a Southerner to say, but I really don't like fried turkey. Would rather have mine the traditional way...

  7. I bought an 18 quart, electric, Rival roaster last year to roast my turkey in. Wooooow, I will never use an oven for roasting my turkey again. This year, I noticed that they are making the roasters 22 quarts now. Mine sits on my marble, cutting board when in use, this protects my counters from heat. My turkey turns out brown and juicy, and makes the best gravy from the drippings. The dressing is moist and lightly browned when I take my turkey out. This really frees up my oven for other baking. This year I'm giving my kids each one for christmas. It also makes a yummy moist ham. Forget the turkey fryers, they scare me...and I like a roasted turkey better. Thanks for sharing. Decgal

  8. I am firmly in the center of folks who do this but we do not. Mostly because we fry nothing much especially large fowl. Also I once took care of burn victims. hugs♥olive

  10. Great timing for such an important topic.

I love deep fried turkey, but for Thanksgiving, I stick with the traditional roasted bird.

    Poor Tom!

  12. My sister has had deep fried turkey but I have never tried it. I have heard it is very good...but there may be a good reason that it is done in the south where it's warm enough to cook outdoors.

  13. We never have tried this & we won't. Have heard too many horror stories. Thanks for posting this as a reminder to those who do choose this turkey cooking option. Be safe everyone.

It was good but not worth the trouble and worry. Now.. I bake the old fashioned way.

  15. Yes, we've heard some terrible things about these fryers. I like the oven roasted turkey much better, anyway. :))
    Thanks for the concern.

  16. Hi,
we don't have such huge deep fryers for turkey here. But our fire brigade shows every year what happens when fat in a normal deep fryer explodes. It is a very scary and shocking demonstration and you can't extinguish this fire with water.
Your cartoon is so cute and the pig can be happy in its mud, because there is no danger on Thanksgiving.
    Greetings, Johanna

  17. The first time we tried this, the oil boiled up and over and down through the cabinet doors. We didn't get a fire, but we had the biggest mess to clean up!!!!

After that, the fryer went outside on the drive way! Great reminder for the season!
    Have a great Sunday.

  21. Hmmm, that's a good enough reason not to deep fry the Thanksgiving turkey! I never have enough peanut oil anyway.
