Harvest Centerpiece

Hi everyone! I'm happy to be joining Tabletop Tuesday, Centerpiece Wednesday and REDnesday with a centerpiece using the last of garden!
A year or so ago I found this very heavy glass bowl at a yard sale for $2. I carried it around for a while and when the girl asked me if I wanted it I said "yes, but I'm not sure what I'd do with it".
Well, I'm so glad I bought it and I haven't stopped using it since!
It's held candles, gourds, poinsettias and made a very fancy base for my feather tree for Valentine's Day! The only thing I haven't done yet is serve food in it, I think fruit salad or a trifle would be beautiful!
Have a happy day:@)

  2. What a terrific idea. I have seen veggies in baskets and bowls, etc, but I don't think that I've ever seen them in such a pretty footed glass bowl. It gives them a unique look of formality or something, and I really like it! I want to try something similar with my trifle dish. Very pretty and very different!

  4. I have a bowl like that that was my mother's. I serve potato salad in it, but boy does that make it HEAVY. I love your centerpiece. Your Valentine feather tree sounds intriguing.

  7. Good Morning Sweetie...
Oh my what a beautiful share. Who would of thought we could use our vegetables and come up with such a gorgeous arrangement. You truly came up with an original, and it makes me think how pretty we could use little pumpkins and squash and others for Fall.

I love the vivid colors and your choice of the bowl is ezquisite.

Thank you for sharing sweet friend. Have a beautiful Tuesday.

Country hugs and much love, Sherry

  8. So many things you can do with it. What a steal. We have nothing growing here. Barely some tomatoes and who knows if they will ever reach maturity.

  24. There really is nothing prettier than something fresh from the yard or garden. Fruit, flowers, veggies, herbs...if it is homegrown, it makes a beautiful display. Yours looks gorgeous in the crystal bowl!

  28. That's a great centerpiece and...I have a bowl just like that one. Have had it for 30 years and always serve my fruit salad in it at Christmas. I tried last year to put it in another, larger bowl and my 41 year old daughter just about died. "We have always, all my life, had our fruit salad in THAT bowl with REAL whipped cream and I want it in there today, too."...haahaha...gotta love those traditions.
We make them and not even know it.:)

  29. Oh my -- I have the same glass bowl! I love it. Right now it's full of packets of soy sauce, duck sauce, and mustard from Chinese takeouts. But it keeps getting used for different things all the time -- the perfect size for so many things.
    Love your garden centerpiece!

  36. What a lovely and versitile bowl you found at a WOOHOO price.
Thanks for stopping by for Rednesday.
I must clarify something you mentioned tho......I was not a leisurely browsing thru the Mags. I was doing research for vintage table tops, textiles, and serving peices....the articles and wonderful interiors were just a happenstance so that I would have inspiration of blog posts....I mean I am always honing my blog craft....and if I must do tedious thumbing thru old musty magazines....force myself to trudge thru aisle and endless aisles of old junk at flea markets, antique stores, garage sales, estate sales, and thrift shops..I will do it for my Followers, my Friends......hehehehohohohehehhooo.Can't beleive I typed this with a straight face ;D I don't remember, did I put I had a bowl of popcorn by my side. When I do find a copy of a vintage mag Hubby and Shadow know not to come between me and the pages. As for the truging thing...bar the door Katie...I'm on a mission don't stand or park in the way when I see one of the above mentioned places..it's called tunnel vision.
Hey, you must know what I mean. You get happpier than a pig in mud on some days!
Hope you have a leisurely day, not just an hour like I did, in your future...soon.

  37. Oh how pretty! It's like a live cornucopia. Isn't it funny how things we can't put down but don't know what we'll do with are often the most enjoyed items we skulk home with? Happy REDnesday~

  42. Fabulous with all those colors! The bowl is by Anchor Hocking and is the Wexford pattern centerpiece, or compote, bowl. I collect Wexford - they're very easy to spot!

  43. Hi Lynn,

Love your bowl, you scored with that buy. I think it would be a darling small punch bowl for frappe for a little girlfriend party. Your friend's plate is sure cute too...and true!

  44. What a great bowl. Yummm....a trifle sounds delicious and it would look pretty too!

  45. Ah, I see that someone else collects Wexford too! I posted about it a couple of years ago on my old blog: http://lemonadehere.blogspot.com/2008/09/show-and-tell-friday.html

It's durable and wonderful and if you keep your eyes open you can still pick it up cheaply!
