Saturday ReView: Cold Oven Pound Cake and Balloon Halter Dress for Kelly Dolls

Today I wanted to share a recipe and technique for Cold Oven Pound Cake. Just like the title says, you place your cake pan in a cold oven and then set the temperature. I really don't know the story behind it, but perhaps someone was trying to make a longer baking cake that has a little lighter crust? All I can say is, this does make a very nice cake folks and your house will smell great! Note: It's easy to cut recipe in half using a loaf pan if desired:@)

And here's a quick little craft... This halter dress for Kelly dolls only requires a balloon, scissors and a couple minutes of your time. It would be fun for girls to have a few in different colors and you get a bunch of balloons in each pack.

Now, I wish I could tell you with certainty what size balloon this is, but my pack just said "assorted sizes". It is approximately 2" at the widest point and I can tell you they would make a balloon that's smaller than 9".

Cut balloon in half.

Cut the back off of the neck of the balloon.
This creates the front of the top.

Round the corners a bit.
Cut a slit in the center of the neck of the balloon.
This creates the halter top, the hole goes over the doll's head.
Cut the bottom straight across.

Dress doll by slipping dress up over her legs and stretch hole over her head.
A view of the back of the dress.

Kelly says "bye, see you next time"...

Make something just for fun and have a happy day:@)

  1. I've never come across a "Cold Oven" cake before. But I have gold a splendid Bundt Pan - however in the current UK lockdown, it would not be a good idea to bake such a huge cake for just two of us to eat! I will keep this idea for the New Year when we hope and pray that all the family can get together again. Thankyou

  4. That little dress is adorable. I haven't made anything new for my dolls in the longest time. They feel neglected! lol I can't wait to dress a few for the holidays though. Hugs!

  5. I have heard of a cold oven pound cake, Lynn, but have never tried it. Your cottage cake looks so pretty. Making a dress out of a balloon sounds like Kelly can have a change of wardrobe just like that! So clever!
