Tomato Glazed Italian Green Beans with Bacon

I love big meaty Italian green beans and while I've never had any luck growing them, I just had to pick up the large 38 oz can that jumped out at me at the Walmart the other day! This is a slightly sweet side dish that's just a little different with the addition of Italian seasoning. The canned beans are good, but I'd like to try it again with frozen beans the next time. Don't hesitate to give this a try if you're looking for a new side dish folks:@)

My inspiration:

Tomato Glazed Italian Green Beans with Bacon
30-38 oz canned green beans, drained well
2 slices bacon, cut into small pieces
small onion, sliced
1 Tblsp A/P flour
15 oz can diced tomatoes, with juice
2 Tblsp brown sugar
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt
few hearty grinds of black pepper
  1. Cook bacon, remove from pan. I left mine in the pan here.
  2. Cook onion in bacon fat. Sprinkle flour over bacon fat, stir and cook for a minute.
  3. Add can of tomatoes with juice. Stir and scrape browned bacon bits off of bottom of pan.
  4. Add everything else.
  5. Cook for a couple minutes until sauce has thickened.
  6. Sprinkle top with bacon (if you didn't leave it in the pan).
Eat well and have a happy day:@)
