FAIL!
I had a feeling things were going down hill from the way the batter was just way too wet, extra flour helped a little... but once I looked in the oven, well, lets just say I'll be cleaning up butter for a while...
Soft and melty, not scone like at all. Needless to say I won't be sharing the recipe.
I guess this is why they sell...
I hope your kitchen adventures work out better than mine today,
I need a big ole cup of coffee and a fork!
Have a happy day:@)
Oh, Lynn, every once in a great while, it is bound to happen. Are you sure Earl didn't add something when you weren't looking? Those Pepperidge Farm cakes are so good, though. :) xo
ReplyDeleteLynn,
ReplyDeleteThese things happen. I cannot discuss the pork roast (sorry Earl) that I made last week.....
Carol
I can't tell you just how thrilled I am to see that I'm not the only one. Posted Failures make my day!
ReplyDeletePepperidge Farm never fails, you're a smart lady to have that in your freezer! xo
ReplyDeleteBlame it on the shaking of the earthquake. I would!
ReplyDeleteWhose worried about a scone when there's CHOCOLATE!RIGHT?
ReplyDeleteWho is the celebrity for September?
Is it to soon to wonder?
I think this is probable one of my most favorite linky parties.

Aw, that really sucks Lynn! Orange ginger scones sound really good too! Of course your alternate looks pretty darned good too!
ReplyDeleteoops!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for Pepperidge Farm, that cake looks so yummy!
Now that cake looks so yummy! I hate that your recipe was a fail but you will find something good next time.
ReplyDeleteAll kitchens at one time or another have to deal with failed recipes. You are just more honest about it than most. Thank goodness you had something you could substitute for them. Here's to better days :-). Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteI bet it just broke your heart to have to eat that disgusting chocolate cake, LOL......no all kidding aside, it happens to the best of us Lynn, my trash can has eaten up some of those recipe failures that couldn't be fixed. Got any more of that cake left, hee hee
ReplyDeleteHappens to the best of us! I'll need a fork as well please ;)
ReplyDeleteI think we can all relate to those "straight to the trash" recipes!
ReplyDeleteChocolate's good:)
ReplyDeletehappens over here too !!!

You win some and some you don't. My first failure was in junior high home ec when I didn't know the difference in baking powder and baking soda (well, they're both white and powdery) and has continued through the years. Maybe we should start a link up and call it "Failure Fridays"!!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
I LOVE CHOCOLATE CAKE!
ReplyDeleteI made some cranberry orange scones one time that were a flop, too! At least you had PF to the rescue!! Horray for chocolate cake!!
ReplyDeleteOh you are brave to post your failures. Last thing most of us think about doing ; )
ReplyDeleteThanks for the smile Lynn. The scones sure look tasty. Butter is so good. HA! I'll give you two forks and help you eat the cake. Mmmmmmm.
ReplyDeleteBetter luck next time.
Hugs, Jeanne
It happens to all of us. I used a PD recipe for corn muffins the other night, yuck!
ReplyDeleteLynn,
ReplyDeleteI bet the chocolate stripe cake was a good consolation, though!
Actually, I have peach bread pudding in the oven right now. Of course after I put it in, I realized that I put in a stick of butter instead of a half of a stick. It said to check it at 30 minutes, well I did...and it was raw. At 45 minutes, still too wet and soupy. I've added another 20 and we will see what I end up with. We all have those baking flops!
ReplyDeleteLynn -- we all have those little kitchen set-backs. Too bad -- I LOVE scones and orange and ginger sounds like a wonderful combo.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Gail
It's all good. That is what cooking is all about :-)
ReplyDeleteWell, I think pepperidge farm is way good anyway! Sorry the scones failed, but were it my kitchen, that would be the norm.. xo marlis
ReplyDeleteSorry it didn't turn out, but it looks like you had a wonderful alternative in the wings.
ReplyDeletehahhaa...we don't mind posting our flops along with the good ones, do we? We just like keepin' it real.:)))
ReplyDeletexoox bj
Your "plan B" looks tasty! I love those little PF cakes. :)
ReplyDeleteughhh.. don't you just hate when that happens!!
ReplyDeletethe Chocolate looks like a good fix!!
Oh boy, I sure do know who that feels!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Lisa

ReplyDeletethey might not turned out as you thought. Although they look really yummy. I guess, they where delicious and you wanted to eat them by your own. Poor Earl!
Best greetings, Johanna
Nothing like a Pepperidge Farm cake when all else fails!
ReplyDeleteI love the cake! One of my favorites! Plus I hate turning on the oven in this blasted heat! Go away heat! Give me some nice cool weather! Ah.....
