Homemade Fudgesicles

I am determined to use my $1 thrift store Tupperware treat makers this summer, first on the list was Fudgesicles! My "boys" (they're almost 30) thought they were good! Not quite as creamy as the ones from the store, but not rock hard either. Also only calls for 4 pantry ingredients, ya gotta love that.
Oh, and if my son's t-shirt is any indicator,
you may want to serve these outside with the hose handy-just sayin:@)

Homemade Fudgesicles-as seen all over the internet
3/8 C sugar
1 1/2 Tblsp A/P flour
1 1/2 Tblsp cocoa powder
2 C milk
  1. Add sugar, flour and cocoa to small sauce pan, whisk to combine.
  2. Slowly add milk, mix in over medium heat.
  3. Heat until mixture thickens slightly, 2-4 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Remove from heat and pour into something with a spout that will make filling the forms easier.
  5. Freeze and eat!
Notes:
  • It never thickened up for me (and this is a common comment from others as well), I just heated it until the sugar dissolved and used it.
  • This recipe would easily make twelve of the Tupperware sized popsicles.
  • I think it's a great treat for the kids, not gourmet but a whole food that's nice and cold on a hot day. Don't hesitate to try this one folks!
I had to chuckle, my son asked "are you really supposed to fit two fingers in that hole?".
I said "if you're four years old, yes":@)

Enjoy a popsicle and have a happy day!

  1. I got them too and I love them. I simply fill in some bought pure juice. Strawberry, orange, melon and mango are our favorites.

  6. I remember those popsicle thingies from the 70's! I think the finger holes seemed tiny even for little kiddos.
These sound pretty good. I do love the real ones, oh so creamy....

  7. My Mom had these and always made them with pudding -- the original pudding pops :)

  8. I smiled as soon as I saw your photo..I can't even count how many times my chubby little hands tried to make those...just like the ones the JoJo man had in his wagon. Disappointment always followed as they tasted watery with frozen shards...yuck!!

I'm wondering if using half and half or, heaven forbid, cream, would help thicken it up?

Thanks for the memories..now if I could find the Tupperware Popsicle containers, lucky you for finding those. xo

  9. I remember my Mom making popsicles in those Tupperware things, and they always tasted better than any popsicle you could buy in the store. Because homemade ALWAYS tastes better! I'd love to give these a try, and I'll definitely keep a hose nearby!

  17. How did I miss this? This would have been just plain perfect last night when my daughter and I were lamenting that we had a need for chocolate. I have all the ingredients at any given time. Now, I just need to figure out how to rig up some makeshift molds.

My mom had those when we were growing up. I wonder if she still has them around some place. Hmmmmm.
    I'm going to ask~

  18. I just love these Popsicle makers! What's neat is sucking out all the flavor and being left with the ice : )

  21. I've tried and tried to recreate the fudgesicles we ate growing up. They were icy like frozen chocolate milk. The ones we buy today are like frozen pudding...I miss the old ones! I'm going to try these for sure; the ingredients are perfect!

  22. I have a couple of 30 year old boys that would love these also!

  23. Essentially the same ingredients as Chocolate Gelato! Just swap the flour and cornstarch :-) I am such a sucker for popsicle makers like these. They are so fun and I remember my Mom using them when I was a kid (many moons ago). Thanks so much for coming to the Ice Cream Social this year!

  24. I must try this for the grands. My mother had a set of those for use when my sis and I were kiddos. I've not seen them for a long time so I must go looking at the dollar store or perhaps Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I agree with Patty's comment; the ones we had as kids were icy and I liked icy better than today's creamier version.
