Works For Me Wednesday-Disposable Icing Bags

Hey everyone! How many uses can we think of for disposable icing bags? I always have a box of these Wilton Disposable Bags in the cabinet. No matter what folks say, they are much sturdier than sandwich bags and just work better. Also, if you have a coupon for one of the craft stores it makes them pretty affordable!
And the best part is just tossing the bag when done... Specialty tips make things fun but all of these ideas simply require snipping the tip off of the bag, I iced these cupcakes with nothing more than the bag.
  • Make pretty deviled eggs, use a big 1M tip pushed down into tip of bag (no coupler needed) and fill bag with the yoke mixture, squeeze into each egg white.
  • Stuff twice baked potatoes, same method as above.
  • Fill cannoli or manicotti, fill half from one end, then the rest from the other end.
  • Fill donuts and pastries with jam or whipped cream (using a pastry tip or poking a hole first with a knife).
  • Make fluffy mousse pretty in serving bowls or to decorate cakes.
  • Snip a very small bit off the tip and use it to decoratively drizzle chocolate or candy melts onto desserts.
  • Make free-formed shapes with melted chocolate or candy melts. Simply pipe onto waxed paper, parchment or silicone sheets and let harden.
  • Pipe meringue cookies onto cookies sheets, you can use a star tip or just cut a bit off the tip of the bag.
  • Stuff strawberries or cherry tomatoes, so much easier than a spoon!
  • Make free-formed spritz cookies, especially handy when you can't get them to stick to the cookie sheet using the press!
  • Make gift packs by filling with orange jelly beans for Easter or homemade hot cocoa mix and marshmallows for Christmas.
  • Easily stuff small peppers-added 6/7/12.
  • And of course... icing cookies and cakes.
Any more ideas?
Have a great day:@)

  1. I'll be using my Michael's coupon on some of these. I just saw them filled with cheetos for easter, made into carrots. I wondered where to get the bags. Thanks.

  2. I will admit to having never used one. I have a little tin thing that I use to pipe on frosting, but I've never used these. I'm going to get some now though!

  4. I used to decorate cookies and cakes for my family all the time when the kids were little and always used those bags. I guess it really has been years since I've bought those bags because I don't ever remember them coming in a box with that many. I do remember them being expensive even for the packages of 10 or so that I bought. I have since used ziplocks a few times and you are right they are SOOO not the same! They break or get too soft and are not easy to manipulate the icing down through the tips. This will be great to have on hand. I am definitely going to have to look for them too. Thanks!

  6. I totally agree. I keep these bags on hand too. The whole cut a corner of a sandwich baggie just ends up exploding at some point.

  7. I have always used the professional bags that I have had for years.
I would rather use the disposable bags because I don't keep the frosting. Great idea and I will certainly be on the look out for those next time I am at the craft store.
Thanks so much for stopping by, it was so good to hear from you.
I hope you and yours have a beautiful Easter holiday,
    Char

  12. I didn't even know they made them. I have the fancy bag that you're supposed to wash out (like that works out well), but I've just been using the baggies. I have had a few major baggie malfunctions though!

  13. I just learned something! I didn't even know they made these. For many years I had the Wilton, heavy duty set but eventually they just get icky and I switched to the Ziploc method. I will look for these. Thanks!

  20. Hi Lynn, I was wondering if you used these, with all the hints you give us about using the little tips. My mother used to decorate cakes when I was little and she had the most difficult tube we had to use--these would have been so much better! Linda
