Celebrity Cook-Along, August 2011

Hey everyone-it's hot out there, what do you say we heat up the kitchen as little as possible...
The Celebrity Chef for August will be Rachael Ray who built an entire empire on 30 Minute Meals!
Did you know the only food that RR doesn't like to use is mayonnaise, yep-it's the truth!

It didn't take long to decide what I wanted to make,
as soon as the kid in me saw Super Sloppy Joes well, I wanted to try them:@)
So grab a big ole napkin and join me with a Sloppy Joe or make any other recipe from Rachael!
Both photos courtesy of Foodtv.com
Super Sloppy Joes
1 Tblsp extra virgin olive oil
1 1/4lbs ground sirloin
1/4 C brown sugar
2 tsp to 1 Tblsp Steak Seasoning-I like 1 1/2 tsp
1 medium onion, chopped
1 small red bell pepper, chopped
1 Tblsp red wine vinegar
1 Tblsp Worcestershire Sauce
2 C tomato sauce
2 Tblsp tomato paste
4 crusty rolls, split, buttered and lightly toasted

Directions

Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. Add oil and meat to the pan. Spread the meat around the pan and begin to break it up. Combine brown sugar and steak seasoning. Add sugar and spice mixture to the skillet and combine. When the meat has browned, add onion and red peppers to the skillet. Reduce heat to medium and cook onions, peppers, red wine vinegar and Worcestershire sauce with meat for 5 minutes. Add tomato sauce and paste to pan. Stir to combine. Reduce heat to simmer and cook Sloppy Joe mixture 5 minutes longer. Using a large spoon or ice cream scoop, pile sloppy meat onto toasted, buttered bun bottoms and cover with bun tops.

Let's break out the EVOO and see if we can turn the stove off within 30 minutes!
See you August 15th and if you're new to the Celebrity Cook-Along details are HERE.
Have a happy day:@)

Note to self: Bean Sloppy Joes-Ground beef optional. Cut brown sugar back to 1/8 C to start. 1 C cooked dry great northern beans or 15 oz can drained. Shredded 3" zucchini (sprinkled with salt and squeezed dry) and carrot. Ok to sub jalapeno for red pepper. About 1/2 C shredded BBQ (or just cooked and shredded) beef. Ok to cook fast and serve or pour into baking dish and reheat.

  3. I love Rachel Ray. Her recipes seem easy for me to follow. Some chefs just don't carry that same appeal, to me. : )

  16. Yay for Rachael Ray! She is my kind of cook! I didn't join in the Bobby Flay recipe since I could never find one I wanted to cook. His stuff is sorta spicy for me. But Rachel, why I even have a couple of her cookbooks! I'll start planning now!
