Barbie Baby Winter Bunting Free Pattern & DIY Baby Sled

This baby bunting for a Barbie baby could be made from flannel, fleece or a nice old beaten up sweatshirt material, which is what I used. I'm having a hard time tossing some warn clothing because I keep thinking projects like this might pop up... This is a cute outfit that's pretty easy, if your girl is old enough to safely handle a needle and thread, she can complete most of it for herself. Even if sewing by hand, it can be completed in less than an hour.

I think the baby looks snug as a bug in a rug😉 This is a silly little project that you can make look anyway you'd like, sports team fabric anyone? Want it snugger? Make it 2 1/2" instead of 3" wide. Want the footed area rounded? Cut the bottom corners into an oval. Anything goes, it's a forgiving project.

What I did:

  1. Cut 3" x 7" rectangle of fabric. On one 3" end, cut a small half moon scoop out of the fabric, maybe 3/4" at the deepest point in center. This scooped side will be the front so we can see the baby's face.
  2. Fold in half long ways with right sides together. I wanted the bumpy well-worn side of my sweatshirt material to be the outside of the bunting.
  3. Sew up both sides. I used a needle and thread, you could use a sewing machine.
  4. Turn right side out.
  5. Fold the cut, open edges down ~inside~ the bunting about 1/4-1/2". In front, the scooped side, off center a bit, sew a long piece of yarn or a thin ribbon around the opening, finishing up on the other side of the front. Adults may need to help with this part as I used thicker tapestry needle and it needed to be wiggled and tugged through one layer of fabric at a time.
  6. You'll have two long ends of the yarn or ribbon so you can scrunch the opening of the bunting up around the baby's face.
  7. Tie a bow under chin, done.
The finished item:

My baby:

Now that she/he has a warm outfit... We're ready for colder weather and maybe some sledding (yep, it's on it's way folks). This sled/boggan is from a recycled Tide bottle, complete picture tutorial here.

And this one is a cute Christmas ornament from Dollar Tree:

They had both red and silver.
I just removed the decoration.

Make something just for fun and have a happy day:@)
