Recycling Can Koozies as Planter Drainage

If your crowd drinks cans of beer soda, you probably have a koozie or two around the house-boat-yard. While they do help keep the cans cooler longer, they do also get old, dirty and worn over time. Instead of throwing them in the trash, how about cutting them up, they make good lightweight drainage for the bottom of planters. Killed me to get rid of my favorite Eagles one *sniff*... But I'm considering this the last purging of the Chip Kelly era:@)

The best tool for the job are these Kuhn Rikon snips, if you don't already have a pair, I do recommend them.
They come in handy for many things, especially cutting those hard plastic form fitting packages things come in.
I got mine from QVC but I see them at HomeGoods, etc occasionally.

Oh, and my replacement koozie?
he-he, a fun Dollar Tree find.

  3. I'm always looking for new way to fill up my planters! My favorite is using the clematis vines that I have to cut back every year in the early spring or broken terra cotta pots but love your idea of the old koozies. I'm not sure my husband would let me cut up our oldest ones though - he's grown too attached!

  4. Too clever Lynn! We purged our old koozies for the flatter variety that take up less space. I used some empty plastic pots this spring in my large containers for drainage and to cut down on my soil :)
