Apple Brownies

Looking for a dessert that's a little easier to put together than a pie but still has all the great flavors? You might want to try Apple Brownies! These bar cookies were great and yep, it's not too late to add this simple dessert to your holiday menu!

The apples keep it very moist and as long as you cool it well first, you should be able to make nice slices. But I see nothing wrong with simply scooping this out of the baking dish into a bowl and topping it with ice cream-just sayin':@)

Apple Brownies-from caramelpotatoes
1/2 C butter, melted and cooled a bit
1 C sugar
1 egg
3 medium apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced (approx 5 cups)
1/2 C chopped walnuts-optional
1 C A/P flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cinnamon
  1. Beat together butter, sugar and egg until fluffy.
  2. In separate bowl, sift together flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon.
  3. Stir dry mixture into wet mixture until just blended.
  4. Fold in the apples and nuts if using.
  5. Spread batter into greased 9x9 baking dish.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.

  6. I bet the apples bring a lot of moistness to the brownies. The apples make a really nice addition.

  7. Hello Lynn, Thank you for your sweet comment today.

Your apple brownies remind me of an apple bar recipe from one of my Aunts now passed away. I have had this recipe for 40 plus years and it is delicious. I was a young wife and mother when my aunt gave it to me. I am going to pull it out of my recipe box and compare the ingredients when we get back home again. I'll let you know if it is the same. It sure seems like it if my memory hasn't failed me.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours Lynn.
