Crochet Granny Square Ornament Covers-Christmas in July!

I've always been tickled by Christmas In July and wanted to make something hoping it might provide some inspiration and give folks a head start on holiday ideas. Especially if you like to decorate with or give handcrafted items as gifts. These ornament covers use granny squares in a way I've never seen before!
The red one was made from a standard acrylic worsted weight yarn and has some nice stretch to it. The green one is 100% cotton yarn and has very little stretch. I prefer the acrylic.
I loosely used this very popular pattern HEREIf you've been following along with my crocheting escapades then you know I don't follow directions very well... But since my projects are small they usually seem to turn out cute anyway:@)

I can see a whole box of multi-colored ornaments covered in white yarn folks-
Inexpensive and very pretty!
