Pinterest Questions

While I'm no stranger to browsing Pinterest, I haven't joined yet. I'm curious about a couple things:
  1. Is there a way to go to the holiday category and only pull up Christmas? Or the crafts category and only pull up crochet? Do you need to join to be able to do that?
  2. Why is it almost impossible to be able to find a link to the recipes? I find that I have to click back through so many other pins of the same thing that I eventually just give up, am I missing something?
  3. Are there any suggestions or tips you'd like to share with someone that's thinking about joining?
Thanks and have a happy day:@)

  1. I'm glad you asked the questions. I don't know the answers but would like to. I haven't joined yet either.

    Happy weekend to you.

    Best,

  2. 1. There is a search box in the upper left hand corner, type in Christmas. 2. If someone repins for like the 100th time with out going back to the original link, it can take forever. I go back about three and then quit. Try the search box again with the name of the recipe. When I pin a recipe, I try to get back to the original source. 3. Join, it's easy, fun and brainless. And I have used my recipe boards like crazy. Pull up the directions and go back and forth from computer to cooking. and of course follow my boards. Lori

  3. I go on Pinterest perhaps twice a week. I don't spend enough time there to have answers for you... I just don't wish to become a Pinterest Junkaholic.

  4. I generally will use Pinterest as my personal file cabinet regarding things I find while reading blogs or surfing the web...once in awhile I will repin something but not often because the search for the search is exasperating at times. I highly recommend it though as a great resource or 'secretary'.

  5. Ditto to the search box. You just have to type in Christmas. The whole Categories thing is very vague and they leave it up to each person to categorize their own pages, so one person's Holidays in another person's Home Decor which might be another person's Design. So just easier to search for Christmas.

The huge downfall to Pinterest is that people see a recipe on Pinterest and go ahead and repin it, but don't bother to check if the original pin was from the original source. So if you join in on Pinterest, make sure that all your pins link back to the original person. There are tons of things I see on Pinterest and I would love to repin to my boards, but they don't have good links back to the original source, so I do not repin them.

With that being said - I love Pinterest! It's so addictive and I have found so many great projects, recipes (although I don't actually get around to cooking them) and decorating ideas.

The best thing about Pinterest is that when you open it up you will see all the latest pins from the people you follow. For me whenever I go there I see all this yummy vintage decor right before my eyes (because I follow a lot of vintage decor people). If you follow a lot of recipe people, then the first thing you would see when you go into Pinterest would be a ton of recipes your peeps have recently pinned. It's automatically geared toward YOU!!!

OK, I'm done with my book on Why I Love Pinterest!

  6. Hi Lynnie! Oh, join Pinterest! I don't know if you can access everything without joining - maybe you can. There is a little search box in the left hand corner where you can type what you're looking for. Also you can go to the "Catergory" thingy at the top of the page and click on the subject you want and then type in the search box what you want. If you join, you can set up your boards like: recipes, crafts, Christmas, just anything you want - and pin just anything you want to that particular board. That way when you want one of those recipes you've pinned to your board you can go back and know exactly where it is.

  7. I joined, but never spent enough time or effort to learn the ropes. Therefore, this is a fairly useless comment!

  8. All I know is that when I go to the page of all the things that have been pinned from my blog, there are 2 things there that are not mine. I wonder how that happens?

I think it should bring you back to the original post, it is annoying to keep clicking and clicking.

Are you thinking Christmas already? I can't even think Fall yet. Going to be 90 tomorrow!

  9. Oh, do join. I absolutely love it. To search for something specific, just type crochet or whatever in the little search button in the upper left corner, then click boards or people or whatever. As for the recipes, if you click on the pin, it brings it up on a page all by itself. You can then click on the original link. If that doesn't work, I delete the pin. There's nothing more annoying than not being able to find something without clicking 10 times. If/when you get on there, look me up - I'm under ThePinkHome. :)

  10. I am a Pinterest addict, and have close to 14,000 pins on 82 boards. You will always get a screen of pins from whomever you follow. There is also a screen of everyone else's pins. You can search for Christmas or any holiday. The recipe links are tricky, I don't pin without checking the link. I have found recipes by noting the blog name, and then searching the blog directly and saving the recipe elsewhere. I find the number of emails annoying, every time someone repins or "likes" or follows, it can add up to a lot of emails. You can opt out of that. Good luck! xo

  11. I LOVE pinterest. I have made so many good recipes and craft projects off of it. It's way better than trying to scroll through a ton of "favorites" on my browser because pinterest lets you do photos. :)

  12. I would love to know more too! I have an account but don't even know where to begin. I will be happy to learn right along with you from all of these ladies who have it figured out. xo

  13. The search bar will let you narrow down your interests. For example, just type in decorating with pumpkins, or Christmas stocking ideas, or uses or mason jars, etc. Clicking on a picture of a recipe or whatever will take you to the original site, whether it be a blog or other website. You can create as many boards as you want, so you can easily sub-divide food into breads, desserts, main dishes, salads, etc., making it easier for you to find. To me, the great thing about Pinterest is that you can keep your points of interest or reference in one place. You can virtually eliminate having "favorite" folders on the internet. Also, you can get some wonderful ideas that other folks have thought of and tried and are willing to share. The home cleaning and storage possibilities are endless. Do it!!!!!

  14. There is a search box at the top, but so far I haven't found it very helpful. What I've done is pin the things I like when I see the on the internet into different boards. As you expand, you'll want to make new boards, which is super easy. I'm of course interested in food, but I have decorating boards on kitchens and dining rooms for example, and I've made a board for fashion ideas for clothes I like. Christmas is a very popular board too.

Be careful with Pinterest or it will take over your life. It's very addictive. I've had to set a timer to tell myself to stop....

Join and have fun, you'll love it.

  15. Lynn, jump aboard. You can search for just Christmas things, and there is also a category called titles. Browsing Pinterest is a fun way to unwind for a few minutes.

  17. I don't search Pinterest, but if someone repins from me, I will take a look at their boards. I do not automatically 'repin'. If it is a recipe, I will look for the original before I pin it. I don't want to have to look for it when I finally decide I want to try it.
The same goes for anything really. I want the original source before I pin or repin anything.
It is fun and frustrating at the same time. pam
