Orange Beets

I saved this Orange Beets recipe as soon as I saw it. While pickled beets are a favorite here I thought it would be fun to try a hot side dish recipe, and we all loved it! The orange and allspice are a nice flavor combination with beets. The original recipe calls for fresh beets, I used canned, either will work fine. If your crew is a fan of beets, don't hesitate to give this a try folks:@)

Other beet recipes:

Orange Beets-from The Iowa Housewife
Qty 2-14.5 oz cans beets, drained
2 tsp cornstarch
small pinch of salt
1/4 tsp ground allspice
1/8 tsp black pepper
1 Tblsp grated orange rind
1/4 C brown sugar
1/3 C orange juice
2 Tblsp butter
minced chives, optional-I didn't have any
  1. Add everything except beets to sauce pan, stir well and gently heat until sauce thickens.
  2. Add beets and heat through.
  3. Top with chives if desired.
Eat well and have a happy day:@)

  1. I am embarrassed to tell you that I've never had beets 😱 I think it's because my mother always ate them and I thought they were so slimy as a child I just couldn't do it! I need to grow up and give them a try :)

  2. I've made some very similiar. They were called Harvard Beets. You know, I haven't made them in a very long time. Guess it's time to try them again. Thanks for the remind.

  6. Lynn, The color of your beets is beautiful! Alas, I only like beets if they're thinly sliced, oven roasted and disguised as pretty colored potato chip :)
