My 2014 Garden Experiment

If you've been around Pig In Mud for a while you know of my gardening battles with the rabbits (example: Chernobyl HERE) and I've spared you the saga with the squirrels/birds/slugs/squash beetles... Let's just say, nature in general has not been kind to this backyard veggie lover. So this year I've decided to try something... easier. This pot is 18" across and 18" tall, if the rabbits get into it, well, they just need the plants more than I do:@) That's a 6' trellis that Y's out at the top for the beans and cukes.
From left to right: Husky Cherry Tomato, pole green beans around the left side of the trellis (seeds aren't up yet), pickling cucumbers and a jalapeno~anyone surprised??? Got all of these beauties planted on an 80 degree day right before some substantial rain... They should be settled in and happy-happy.

I'll post periodic updates and hopefully a recipe or two with some home grown goodies!
Keep your fingers crossed for me...

Happy Mother's Day everyone-Have a happy day:@)

  1. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, Lynn, because your potted veggie garden looks wonderful. I look forward to the progress and hoping those bunnies can't hop that far. I've had succulents in baskets on the fence that I guess squirrels are taking chunks of. Frustrating!!
Happy Mother's Day to you and your Ma.

  3. Good luck! Squirrels are the bane to my flower pots though, every time I plant something, they get in there and dig it up, hiding their nuts or something. I have to plant stuff that grows really fast and covers the pot before they can get in there! I am about to do an indoor herb garden and give up! Hope yours works!

  6. Brilliant idea and I wish you great success. I do a lot of container gardening too, in our case, it is because of the gophers. I hope you have outwitted your rabbit foes.

  7. Very nice. Yep, we have the problem with critters in the garden, too. Somehow, we manage to keep some for ourselves. ;) Happy Mother's Day. :)

  10. Fingers crossed and good luck with the bunnies. Those guys can be pretty persistent. We have trouble with deer eating our azaleas. Just heard they don't like garlic, so bring on the garlic powder. Maybe there' something bunnies don't like...
    Happy Mother's Day Lynn.

  13. Wishing you much luck with this kind of gardening... it should keep the rabbits out. We planted strawberries in the garden this year.... will be interesting to see if any critters get to them before we humans do. LOL
