Recycled Jar Team Candle Holder

We're entering my favorite season folks... yep, Football Season!!! It's hard to believe this is the fourth year of my PIGSkin Challenge where I choose a subject to post about once a week for the 17 weeks of football. This year I decided to focus on items with a football theme instead of recipes. Could be anything from a craft to serving dishes (with some football food here and there), I think it will be fun!

I'm kicking off my PIGSkin Challenge with a Recycled Jar Team Candle Holder. If you know a true sports fan you know we they can be a little, fanatical about our their team! This Team Candle Holder is a fun idea because it's a gift guys will like and it's easy enough that the kids can help make it. And as Martha Stewart would say, the world could always use more glitter:@)

I found the window clings at Michael's for $2.49, they even had some local colleges.
The football beads are from JoAnn Fabrics.
I loved the idea of recycling a jar and used a small Better Than Bullion jar (approx 3"x3"). 

Material:
Jar
Elmer's Glue
Glitter
Team window cling
Ribbon, beads and assorted other embellishments if desired
Tea light candle

 Directions:
  1. My glue mixture was 1 tsp each water, Elmer's Glue and glitter. 
  2. I didn't save the jar lid so I mixed it with a wooden skewer and shook it around the jar pretty good. Then tilted the jar and swirled it all over the inside. 
  3. You'll find it's a wet mixture and it slides down the sides of the jar. I simply kept tilting and swirling and found that more glitter stuck each time I did it. 
  4. When I finally felt there was enough glitter stuck to the sides of the jar I turned it upside down on a paper plate to drain. I broke the wooden skewer in half and placed the jar opening on top of the two pieces, that way the glue/water could run out.
  5. Once you decide it's drained enough dip the outer edge of the top of the jar in the glue/glitter on the paper plate. Just enough to cover it so it looks nice.
  6. Let everything dry completely, takes a day or two.
  7. Clean the outside of the jar well with alcohol and dry off. Trim the window cling so it will fit on the jar, peel off paper and smooth it on the jar.
  8. Add ribbon or any cute embellishment you'd like to cover the top of the jar-if desired.
  9. Add a tea light and fire it up to bring your team good luck!!!
