Sarah Bernhardt Peony

Well, it took 4 years to bloom... So I'm determined to enjoy my first flower from the Sarah Bernhardt Peony I planted in the yard, and I do mean there was only one flower. Note the obligatory ant:@)
Her timing is not the best, we had a cool rain all day yesterday and it's jumping up close to 90 today,
so I ran outside and picked it early this morning.

Fully open after work...
Have a happy day:@)

  2. yup, can't have a peony (even one) without an ant (or a bazillion).

  3. Did you read WIkipedia write up on Sarah Bernhardt? No wonder this peony was named after her! So beautiful.

  4. Ahhhh one bloom this year....many next year. She is ready. Not only do we seem to get the obligatory ants on our but it seems the weather must deluge us with rain as soon as the blooms open along with our poppies. Sigh.

  10. I love peonies and remember them well from living in PA. They would be planted in rows at our house and my Aunt Kitty's house. I'm glad you are able to enjoy the one blossom. Hopefully you'll get more?? I wonder why ants love them so much?

  11. Beautiful Lynn and definitely worth the wait! Peonies are one of my favorite flowers, I missed ours blooming last year when we were gone for a week but have enjoyed them this year!

  12. I love those Peonies. I had one at our old house and it took forever to bloom! I wish they lasted longer.

  13. Sarah is in my garden also :) I love peonies and when they bloom it's a major event here - perhaps in another week or so. Gorgeous bloom.

  16. It is GORGEOUS!!! No wonder peonies are my mother's favorite flower. We don't grow them this far south.

  18. So beautiful! Love that soft pink color. Peonies are so fragrant but they do often get decimated by rain. You did the right thing, bringing your beautiful bloom inside to perfume the house!

  19. Mine were planted in too shady of a spot so I moved them last year - nothing! This year I am going to get a few on one plant and nothing on the other two, so it is good to hear that it might take forever!

Lynn, the color of yours is wonderful. I love how full it is too. I saw some spectacular pink ones at Costco two days ago - should have picked them up!

  24. That is just beautiful. Mine have taken a beating from all the rain. I never can get enough ants off to bring them in the house. Sometimes I think a single bloom makes much more of a statement and yours is perfection.

  26. Lynn, this is a SPECTACULAR peony!! I'll have to remember that variety, although, I wonder why it took so many seasons to bloom? We haven't planted any peonies, but every year I say I'm going to -- peonies and hydrangeas are two of my favorites. :) I love that you captured the ant in your picture, and the fully opened flower was just gorgeous. :-D

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  27. Well, she sure is beautiful and worth waiting for! I love peonies. They were selling them at the Farmer's Market in Chicago last weekend but were gone very quickly. We missed getting some.
