Works For Me Wednesday-Unclogging Slow Drains

Hey everyone! Since "renting" a handy man costs $65-$100 an hour... sometimes I decide to put on the big girl panties and try to fix things all-by-myself. The bathroom sink was draining painfully slowly so I walked down the plumbing isle at Walmart and this little beauty caught my eye:
It's about 18" long and has those little yellow barbs that catch hair etc in the pipe so it can be removed.
Insert, push down, pull out (slowly-yuck) and toss. Easy peasy!
Full disclosure: I did wipe it off carefully in an upward motion with paper towels
and ran it down the other side of the drain too.
Now, am I saying this is a cure-all? No, but it's sure worth a try before you call the plumber!

A quick review:
Problem-slow draining bathroom sink
Solution-$2.24 plus tax

  1. I so need one of these. I have super thick long curly hair which means the tub is always draining slow. I have been doing it the Redneck way with a wire hanger. And you are right is is oh so gross!

  7. Good job, Lynn! My hubby and I clean out our slow drains with pressurized water - i.e., the garden hose. Your solution looks less time consuming and only takes one person!

  16. Not that you want to know, but I used one like that for a toilet once. I'd prefer it pushed it through rather than pull it back up though.

  17. A Zip - It tool is effective for slow draining sinks, my friend. You made a smart decision in buying one. It will fully remove all the debris that collected in the drains. By the way, I want to share a simple technique in unclogging the sink’s drain: Pour hot water onto your sink’s drain to restore its normal flow.
