They're really good folks, don't hesitate to make these, you will be thanked!
Jimmy Dean Sausage Cheese Balls-from Allrecipes
(2) 16oz packages regular Jimmy Dean Sausage
1 1/2 C Bisquick**
4 C Cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 C onion, finely diced
1/2 C celery, finely diced
2 tsp black pepper
2 tsp garlic, minced-I used 1/2 tsp garlic powder
(2) 16oz packages regular Jimmy Dean Sausage

4 C Cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 C onion, finely diced
1/2 C celery, finely diced
2 tsp black pepper
2 tsp garlic, minced-I used 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Mix all, form into 1" balls, place on greased baking dish.
- Bake 18-20 minutes.
- Cool 5 minutes and serve.
- Some say this can be hard to mix together. I had the sausage and cheese close to room temp, mixed it with my hands and had no problem.
- Makes approx 72-1" meatballs.
- I used white cheddar, I think yellow may actually look better.
- The recipe is easily cut in half or even a fourth.
- For an extra little treat, serve with pure maple syrup for dipping on the side-very nice!
- They have a lot of flavor. Many folks mention them as a holiday favorite (both Thanksgiving and Christmas) and I can see them being very popular at a party.
- **Bisquick substitute: 1 C flour, 1 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/4 tsp salt, 1 Tblsp shortening. Mix well with a fork.
I love sausage and stuffing so these are right up my alley. Looks like another winner.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this recipe. This would be perfect for my Thanksgiving day brunch.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll use half chedder and half pepper jack cheese. We like things spicy.
Happy Sunday to you and yours~!
Sonny
One of my favorites though the family still prefers pigs in a blanket.
ReplyDeleteSometimes sausage balls are like little lumps, but I think the addition of the onion and celery will really lighten them and improve the flavor. I'm trying your recipe. They really look good.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you discovered this Southern classic! It's been a favorite in my world for many years.
ReplyDeleteLove sausage balls, Lynn. I've never had them with the celery, onions and garlic but they sound very good. Have a wonderful Sunday!------- Shannon
ReplyDeleteI made these before!!! They didn't look like this )O: Yours look fabulous! They make me want to try them again!
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn! I love these but haven't seen this recipe. So you know I'll have to try it! Now just put me a little mustard on the plate to dip in and I'm good to go.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
G'morning, Lynn and Earl,
ReplyDeleteJimmy Dean was from my town, Plainview, Texas and we all thought he was a great guy. His sausage is so good. We've made sausage balls forever..and, yes, I always use my hands to mix.
I just made a new recipe of Cheese Balls but froze them and will cook them the morning of our Girls Day Out...there will be about 10 ladies coming over for food and cards. This recipe uses cream cheese, too. Yum...
My husband and I got to see Jimmy Dean in person once, years ago. We were listening to the Dixie Land Band at the Grand Floridian at DisneyWorld and he and his young wife were also listening. He even sang a song with the band. I think he's remember more for his sausage than his singing!
ReplyDeleteThese sound great, Lynn. You find the best meatball recipes!
These look really YUM!
ReplyDeleteOh yes! The maple syrup would be excellent with these!
ReplyDeleteI'll take two please! Oink! Oink!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Sheila :0)
What a great appetizer! Thanks, Lynn!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Never thought of adding cheese to sausage like that - YUM! sandie
ReplyDeleteOh my, those look scrumptious!!! Will try them! Thanks for the recipe, it' printing right now.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy day!
Nancy
I use Jimmy's sausage roll in my stuffing! I also change it up every year. These are a tasty appetizer. xo
ReplyDeletePig and cheese, nuff said.
ReplyDeleteSounds like the perfect snack to me!
ReplyDeleteOh, this recipe is one of my favorites, but we don't add the celery, just cheese, sausage and Bisquick.
ReplyDeleteYum! These look delicious!! You're inspiring me to make meatballs, I hardly ever make them. Hope you're having a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI am cracking up at Earl's turkey get-up! You are seriously sick, Woman, truly you are.
ReplyDeleteI'll try the sausage cheese balls if you promise to try the cucumbers, but like I said, don't leave out the celery seed. That made a world of difference in the flavor.
Hope you're having a nice weekend. The TV has been on football ALL DAY & I'm sewing away on Christmas gifts. My kinda Sunday!
fondly,
Rett
Every Thanksgiving my nephew insists I Have to make my variation on these (they are more biscuit-y than meatballs and I used Old English jar cheese instead of shredded). Always a hit.
ReplyDeleteThese look delicious! Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLynn,
ReplyDeleteMeatballs, the possibilities are endless!
Loving your Eagles apple pie!!!
Loving your Thanksgiving cartoon! Reminds me of something I saw as a kid at someone's house, involving cats and a ham.....
I make a similar recipe at Christmas, but mine don't have celery and onion. I'll be it adds a lot of flavor.
ReplyDeleteLynn, these appear at almost every church supper I have ever been to in the south. They are that good. olive
ReplyDeleteI've eaten many of these- they're very addicting- but I've never made them. I'm glad you reminded me of them, because they'd be great for the upcoming season. :)
ReplyDeleteLove sausage balls!
ReplyDeleteI had your sausage balls a couple of weeks ago at a football party and they were served with a sweet and sour sauce. They were a huge hit! Like you, they were new to me, so thanks for the recipe Lynn.
ReplyDeleteUmm, you do know sausage is made from Pig, so Earl may object to you eating his relatives!
ReplyDeleteInvite a pig to dinner? Oh yes!
Have a great week!
Did you go to CTS?
These look and sound really good!! I'm going to try these.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Jane
I bet these would disappear in no time at a party. They look quite enticing!
ReplyDeleteOne of my mother's standby recipes for the Holidays was for sausage cheese balls. It's a family favorite and we carry on the tradition!:-)
ReplyDeleteSounds good to me. Did Earl's team win?
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
Yum, I love sausage and stuffing but they are rare treats in my house. Looks like a delish recipe.
ReplyDeleteI haven't made these in years!! Thanks so much, Lynn, for inspiring me to make them again. That Earl sure is a cutie...I love to see what he's up to for he always puts a smile on my face!!!
ReplyDeleteThese are a special treat for the holidays at our house. I LOVE them so, so much and they always disappear quickly. I like the look of them with white cheddar and I have never served them with the maple syrup. I am definitely going to try that this year. Thanks for the tips!
ReplyDeleteThese look great to me.I hope Earl won. Have a great day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteNum! I don't think I could stop at just one, so better make up a big batch. I just love appetizer foods. Sometimes we go to a restaurant and just order appetizers and then desserts!
ReplyDeleteYum, Lynn. We love Jimmy Dean sausage and my hubs will love this. Thanks for the recipe.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Jeanne
I see I am going to have to encourage the hubby to watch more football! You have so many ideas for football food lately. Now I want to do a football party!
