Help-Need idea to fix Jack-O-Lantern

Anyone have a fun idea to fix an ugly problem? I picked up this Jack-O-Lantern at Walmart a couple years ago and love that it's over-sized, a good 16" tall. I also love it's happy face:@) The problem is that they put the light bulb right in the middle of the back of it's head and you could see the bare bulb. This decoration goes in the kitchen so I didn't want that glaring light.

I did manage to make a hole at the top and move the bulb, that works much better.
But it left an ugly (and distracting) indent in the middle of the back of it's head.

My son used a Dremel and cut the indent out...
How can I hide this 2 1/4" round hole? Simply putting cardboard, etc, over it still looks odd.
This has had me stumped so I thought I'd put it on the blog and ask for ideas...
The pumpkin is one piece and the only holes are the cut-outs in the face (and now back of the head).
It's also a harder, tough plastic and not made of the funkin material.

Lately I've been thinking about "stuffing" the inside of the pumpkin with crumpled deco mesh?
...as you can tell by that thought, I welcome all suggestions:@)

Thanks and have a happy day!

PS-You can see what I did HERE, thanks for the great suggestions everyone:@)

  2. The only thing I can think of, is to buy a funkin pumpkin at the dollar store, cut a piece of it, and pop it into the distracting hole. Maybe draping a Halloween fabric, or even burlap, in the back could help, as another way of hiding it?

  3. Since it's for your kitchen, why don't you fill him full of marshmallows :)

  4. The idea to buy another one at the dollar store is the best solution, I think! Fill in the hole from it!

  5. Buying something to work with it sounds like a plan! I'm going to make a little Halloween dress this week! I guess we are both in the mood! Hugs!

  7. I would cut the bottom out. Use an extra piece from the bottom to fill in the hole. I also would purchase a fall berry garland and arrange it (fluff it up) in the pumpkin so that it takes the eye away from the back hole that you dremeled in. Also, if you wanted to go with the mesh. I would either buy or paint it black and you could put a string of lights within the mesh to give it a soft glow but not a glaring light as the light bulb.

  8. Easy peasy solution. Take black tulle or lace, Glue to inside of "face," put bulb in original position. If you think tulle or lace would be too sheer, then look for an old pair of black tights or pantyhose and do the same thing. Good luck!

  9. Plug that hole with another Halloween item inside of the pumpkin, like a spider, web cutout, skull, or mouse coming in through said hole that is what I would do. Good luck.

  10. I like Megan's idea. My mom used to tape colored plastic squares on our windows at Christmas---as a non-crafter, I have no idea what the material is called, but you could cover the eyes from the inside with an orange version to camouflage the filled hole in the back.

  11. My idea has been said. I would cut a hole in the bottom and glue some tissue paper or tulle over the eyes. nose, and mouth to defuse the light and to cover the hole. I also like the idea from Picasso80 stuff the hole with a spider or rat.

  12. Hi Lynn, I'll put on my thinking cap (aka witch hat <|:-) and if I run across any inspiration I'll let you know! I do like the idea of adding another item from like a spider or creepy gauze for a little spooky fun to camouflage it :)

  13. Can you cut tissue paper to glue inside over the opening that will hide the inside workings? Or perhaps a gauzy fabric that would still allow the light to shine through.

  14. My idea was to put a little hand crafted mouse in the hole sneaking into the pumpkin and maybe place one outside on the top of the pumpkin as well.

  15. My first idea was to buy a cheap carvable pumpkin and cut a hole to patch it but I like Megan's idea of using the same pumpkin and cutting a hole out of the bottom. You could fill any empty space there might be with craft glue. Can't wait to see what you come up with, Lynn!
