Throw Away the Bread Machine Instructions-This Is Great White Bread!

You will love me for this one folks! I found this recipe on food.com and it was so good and so easy! In the past I've found that the bread machine makes a decent loaf of white bread but it's not the soft, fluffy, sandwich kind of bread our kids (or the males in our life) are used to. This Throw Away the Bread Machine Instructions-Soft White Bread will correct that! You can let the machine do all the work or add the dough to a bread pan for the second rise and bake it in the oven. I made one of each because I wanted to see how it would turn out.
If you have a bread machine you haven't used in a while, I encourage you dust it off and give this recipe a try! Then break out the peanut butter and jelly:@)
Notes:
  • Pictured above is the loaf using the dough cycle and finishing it in the oven. My only change was to use melted shortening instead of oil (I just think it tastes better in bread).
  • After reading the reviews, I used A/P flour and subbed 1/3 C of whole wheat for the loaf 100% made in the bread machine, it worked out fine
  • The recipe calls for bread flour, I don't have it and used A/P.
  • My machine makes up to a 2lb loaf, after reading the reviews (and seeing that the recipe that came with the machine called for 3 cups of flour) I chose to bake a 1.5lb loaf, that was a good idea.
  • The loaf I made in the oven was left to rise approx 1" above the rim of the pan and baked at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
  • People credit the 10 minutes the recipe allows the yeast to bloom as the secret to a nice soft loaf of bread. It does seem to be the one difference from standard bread machine recipes.
Throw Away the Bread Machine Instructions-Soft White Bread-from Food.com
1 C warm water (110 degrees F)
2 Tblsp sugar
2 1/4 tsp bread machine yeast (one package)
2 Tblsp melted butter
2 Tblsp oil (can use shortening or 4 Tblsp butter)
3 C white bread flour-I used A/P
1 tsp salt
  1. Place water in the bread pan. Tip: I like to warm up the pan first by running some hot water into it then pouring it out.
  2. Sprinkle the sugar and yeast over the water, allow to bloom for 10 minutes.
  3. Add the butter, oil, flour and salt.
  4. Select the basic or white bread 1.5lb loaf and press start. Or select the dough cycle and punch down the dough, form and place in a bread pan for the second rise.  Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
Eat well and have a happy day:@)

  2. Gosh I love bread. Pretty much any kind of bread, so it's dangerous to have in the house if it's home made. That really looks good!

  4. I'd love to try the bread, but don't have my bread machine any more. I'll mix it up in my mixer. It looks so good, Lynn, and I'm glad the recipe was a winner. I'll bet your boys loved it!

  5. I love my bread machine, it does all the kneading and first rise for me while I do other things! I never bake in it though, I just can't get past that hole in the bottom of the loaf. LOL!! I will have to try letting the yeast bloom, thanks for the tip! :)

  14. I was never thrilled with the bread that came out of my ancient bread machine. Glad this yummy looking bread can be made just as well without one :)

  15. Lovely bread. I use the same recipe - but put all the dry ingredients (just 1/2 of the flour at first) into the bowl of the Kitchen Aid mixer - then all all the wet ingredients all at once - mix on this on high for 1 1/2 minutes - slowly add the rest of the flower - change to the dough hook - add more flour if needed while using the dough hook until the dough forms a loose ball - and then beat on high for 1 1/2 minutes (this takes the place of kneading). Put on a floured board, knead four or five times - let rise - then form into a loaf and let rise again - easiest bread I ever made.

  19. I have been hanging around not feeling so hot, and this sounds SO good. I might have to ventur out and get myself a BLT on white bread. It is so wet here today, I am not sure bread would rise properly.

Going to go catch up on your posts now...
