Cheddar Olives

Hey everyone! Before I end up on the "Too Many Recipes Gathering Dust" episode of Hoarders... I thought I'd try A Little Somethin' From the Stash! You know how it is, something sounds good so you copy it only to realize 5 years later that you've never tried it... So today I have a tasty little appetizer:
Cheddar Olives

What do these have to do with the nautical theme?
I thought they'd be fun apps for Mary's Cocktail Party over HERE:@)
Cheddar Olives
8-10 oz jar of pitted green olives, either pimento stuffed or plain.
1 C sharp Cheddar, shredded
2 Tblsp butter, softened
1/2 C flour
1/8 tsp cayenne (or 1/8 tsp smoked paprika or freshly ground black pepper to taste)
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Drain the olives well and dry them on paper towels, set aside.
  3. Combine the other ingredients in a bowl and mix with hands until the consistency of playdough.
  4. Pinch off small amount and flatten it in the palm of your hand, wrap it around the olive. Pinch off any excess dough then roll the ball between your hands until it's nice and smooth. Place on baking sheet and roll the rest.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Or you could freeze them, wrap tightly and store them for a week. Baking them straight from the freezer for 20 minutes.
Notes:
  • They taste like Cheez-Its with a salty surprise center! I'll bet they'd be great subbing a cube of ham in the middle too.
  • They are nice with the cayenne, I'd like to try black pepper.
  • I had the smallest olives on hand, I think they should be bigger.
  • Do start checking on them around 12 minutes.
  • You'd get approximately 24 apps with the small olives.
  • I copied this recipe long before I started blogging, found it somewhere on the net.
Have a happy day!

  7. Oh, Sweetie, I'd love to give this a try but all my olives have been presoaked in gin for happy martini making, or else had all the gin sucked out of them by a happy martini maker.
This does look like it would be at home alongside the far at a 60s suburb patio party!

  10. Oh goodness, I have about four family members who would be all over this one. I can't wait, in particular, to tell my niece. She loves to make finger food and this would jazz her completely.

  13. My husband likes all things olive. He will love this recipe. There is a restaurant in Florida that makes something similiar, but they are deep fried. I don't fry things often, so this sounds much better to me. Thanks!!
