A Berry Patriotic Pie!

Hey everyone! We've all seen the pretty pies on magazine covers, this is my 4th of July reminder that cookie cutters can go a long way to help make a dessert have a big "wow" factor!
I used my individual pie plate and leftover blueberries mixed with some mulberries off the tree.
Berry Pie for One
One cup berries
1 Tblsp flour
1 Tblsp sugar
Shake of cinnamon
(lemon zest and butter optional)
Single pie crust
375 degrees, 20 minutes top crust covered, 30 minutes uncovered. Let cool.
Note: this oven temp is out of the BHG cookbook for berry pies, personally, I prefer a hotter oven.

Last year I made this apple pie:

Love this beauty from Woman's Day, click HERE for directions:

Other party ideas using cookie cutters:
  • Top cobblers with crust or biscuit cut outs.
  • Use the mini star cutters to shape fruit slices. Make watermelon and cantaloupe shish-ka-bobs. Or just add a couple to the top of a bowl of fruit salad.
  • Shape pepperoni and cheese for a cracker tray.
  • Cut mini stars out of red bell peppers for a veggie tray.
Any other fun ideas for the 4th or using cookie cutters?

  7. You are so clever!!! I never thought of doing that!!! It looks a lot better and a lot less painless than making a top crust--I never have much luck with that.
