Cheesy Garlic Bread (or Pizza Bread) Using Leftover Hot Dog Buns

On today's episode of Frugal Living, pinch that penny til it squeals...
What can we do with leftover hot dog buns besides toss them into the freezer for stuffing? How about turning them into a Cheesy Garlic Bread that would be great with a pasta dinner or even as side dish for a nice steamy bowl of soup. Super simple, lots of options and pretty darn tasty!

We could make them as garlic bread or omit the butter and add a little pizza sauce for a quick pizza bread...

I really didn't use any measurements,
just slathered some butter on the buns and sprinkled them with everything else.

Cheesy Garlic Bread Using Leftover Hot Dog Buns
This is the kind of thing we don't really need a recipe for...
  1. Separate buns and a slather with butter. Lay cut side up on foil lined tray for easy clean-up.
  2. Generously sprinkle with garlic powder.
  3. Shake on Italian Seasoning.
  4. Shake on some grated Parmesan cheese.
  5. Sprinkle on some shredded mozzarella-as much or as little as your crowd would like
  6. Sprinkle top with a little paprika and dried parsley.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes or until cheese is lightly browned.
Eat well, save those pennies, and have a happy day:@)

  3. Looks good. We use leftover bun for just about everything from regular toast to bread pudding. I have never understood why some people think buns are only for their intended purpose.

  4. This brought back memories, for my mom used to make quick pizzas with sandwich bread, Lynn. I have three leftover hot dog buns just waiting for this!

  5. I had to chuckle at 'pinch that penny til it squeals' Lynn :) What's not to love about any bread with butter, garlic and cheese?

  6. I actually buy packages of hot dog buns (can usually get a bag for .99) to make garlic cheese bread. It is way cheaper than buying commercial garlic bread. There are just two of us so I fix half a package and then mic any leftovers for 30 seconds and serve with the leftover dish that I made that I served the buns with. I also use hot dog and hamburger buns to make bread pudding. Got this idea from Southern Plate.
